Adjusting to a new diet...ups and downs?

About 2 months ago I started the Keto diet. It is the one with Intermittent Fasting. I think it is a rather radical diet compared to most others. ( I have Chronic IBS ) I am having some problems getting used to it. Some days I feel better than I have in years, and other days I struggle with feeling poorly. Is this your experience when you try diffirent diets? Maybe we would have these mood swings no matter what we ate. I know we need to eat healthy foods, but in what combination, amount, vitamins, fiber, fat, sugars, YIKES!, it all seems like you have to have a PHD to understand the complexities and even then it wouldn't be perfect. It is rather depressing when our diet seems to dictate our moods.?

It's discouraging, isn't it Paco Dennis? I know I should "eat healthy" but the definition of that keeps changing. I just read a book from the library, "The End of Dieting" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. After getting through 150 pages where he sneered at all the other diets Keto, Mediterranean, Dash, Low-Carb, etc. he finally got to his plan which is vegetables, vegetables and then more vegetables, with zero fat or meat. A few beans, nuts and fruit are allowed. If his strict plan is the "end of dieting" I give up.

I've been a good dieter in the past, able to stick to a plan for a year or so. My last diet was two years ago. I stuck to intermittent fasting (eating only from noon to six) and 1200 calories a day for one year. Then the weight started coming back even though I was still doing the plan so I gave up. Now when I try to start again I just get depressed.

It is very discouraging to say the least. Yet, I know the foods that affect me and that I should not eat them. Of course, they are the ones I want the most. The diet I had the most luck with was the Atkins 72 which is the original Atkins diet. I do it with a limit of 20 carbs. The biggest problem I have is when I have to eat other people........then out the window goes my food plan!

I devBSeloped Lower anterior resection syndrome from the chemo, radiation and surgery for cancer that has thrown my system way out of whack. Similar symptoms to IBS. I have tried all sorts of different diets. Some work one day and the not the next. IBS is quite frustrating as so many things one likes you have to stay away from. A good beer will often trigger off a friend's IBS and for sure caused me issues. After 9 yrs of various diets , physical therapy, bio feedback I have kind of given up and just take things day by day. Weirdest thing after having a cast iron system.

Hope you have some success and makes your days more fun.
