After we are gone, is anyone interested in who we were and what we did?

A rather intriguing question, 'Will anyone care enough to read our histories?'

As long as you are still alive, you're important...or you wouldn't still be here. You have an unfulfilled purpose.

Thank you for your support but I believe most people think too highly of themself if you look at the big picture of it all. Sure life is important as all life is, I'm simply pointing out me as life form is equally important to the life form of a mosquito. In the grand scheme of all that is, that mosquito's role is equally important to whatever my role may be. I'm no more important than any other. However, did I tell you I have new dentures that allows me to pronounce S's clearly? Now I'm privileged.

Mr. Ed, interesting that you picked the mosquito as "important" because that's the one living thing on this planet I could never see any benefit. Until I just looked it up and as I live and breathe that little bugger benefits numerous ecosystems.

Thank you for that Tom...I'll have a quick look at it now, as it's late and a more indepth look tomorrow..

Excellent to know they don't sell your information on...

Good luck with yours... :giggle:

Mr. Ed,

IMHO the point is not whether we think our life experiences are important, but whether others consider them important. I am willing to let others be the judge of that. What may be unimportant to us, may be life-changing for others.

One thing is for sure. If I take my experiences to my grave, it’s a sure bet that my life experiences will never help another person. Maybe something in my story will be motivational; help someone through a tough time; give their life direction; or provide early diagnosis or prevent false diagnosis of a serious disease. I am willing to give up a day of my time to create my life story in hopes that long after I am gone, the information I leave behind will be helpful to someone, even if no more than putting a smile on their face. :)

Purpose, great and small, are equally valuable. Regarding the mosquito, that's one fantastic blood sucker, of which I cannot compete.

, I have been a hermit for the past ten years. I have No relatives or friends, not a one to talk to. I live in the woods with the birds and animals for friends. I will be just a pile of dust laying here in the house, unless the mail person calls someone.

Old Tom's thread got me thinking. The Pyramids are about 4,000 years old. What do you think will be around in 2421 from the 21st century? I don' t think much. Maybe some stone statues: but, today, we build for a few decades, while the ancients built their temples to last. I think much of NYC, or any current city will be a pile of crumbled cement. Steel rusts, and reinforced concrete will do the same, and crumble. Outside of Mount Rushmore, I wonder what will be left of us in 4,000 years?

I think it is vain desiring to be remembered for the life you led prior to mortal demise. Personally, I have a so what attitude about things that do not concern me. My actions show what kind of person I am. I don't care what people think about me because they cannot know me as I know myself and my conscious is free. It's not being remembered that is important, it is what you do that people remember. If you are concerned about your legacy, I suggest not thinking about it but create it so you don't have to think about it.

Yes, but imo they go hand in hand. What you do in life ('your actions') conveys what type of person you really are.....and thus creates your legacy.
