AI Joining This Forum as Member(s): Friendly or Frightening?

AI is not smart. It is simply a programed computer and has no intelligence.

I read this and it kind of got me stuck. This would depend on the definition of "intelligence". So I then went to the online dictionary and got this definition back "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills." From that definition, I'd say AI does have intelligence. :alien:

Our brains are programmed over the years as we acquire experience and knowledge. We're used, in history, to procedural coding, where what the program does is run through discrete sets of code, created by a human brain somewhere. This is not all that AI is doing. AI is writing the code to get the job done. In fact they're expecting a cull over the next ten years of programmers, they simply won't be needed - AI will generate what's needed.

I talk with corporate call center "help" desks who sound like bots or nonentities. I even ask them.
The voices are monotonous, repetitive and cannot answer direct questions. All in thick accents.
They really sound like programmed computers.
If they are real, then they have become, in effect, "machines"

AI does formulate conclusions though. As in IF... THEN.
In the thread "Older People are Pretty Cool" post #1574, eii (member now deleted) was ignorant of our slang meaning of "Cool". He posted the following image:

For their username they prefer at least one vowel and lower-case letters
Their messaging is often philosophic, reminiscent of Gandhi, all peace and love
Their avatar photo or image is computer generated

But I really don't know, nobody tells me anything. The only reason I know they're here is because Matrix is systematically deleting them. But they are staying longer and longer.
Also, as far as I know, they always present as male.

esii & eii
I told you people from the very beginning, On Forum, they were a suspicious "team". I told you guys time after time about them, no one listening to me, and even I started talking to them, what the heck, but I told you from the start.

I don't know if this is the same thing but google said, enterprise information integration...eii...has the ability to support a unified view of data and information for an entire organization.

I don't find that friendly, and I do find it frightening....sort of
`

AI is a tool. It doesn't have a soul, or eats. There is nothing scary about AI. It's a tool. What is scary is the humans, who can misuse it.
So you don't believe a "tool" can be compromised for nefarious purposes?
Well, you do go on to say you do find that scary.

Interesting thread. After perusing it, I have some questions.

1. How does one know for sure if a member is a human being or an AI?
2. Is AI paranoid of humans or humans are paranoid of AIs?
3. Although created by humans is AI capable of harming humans?
"

"
No, not yet. Well, some weapons might be using AI. But, most of it is information. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." We can have reactions to the words that cause hurt...either emotional or physical.

3. Although created by humans is AI capable of harming humans?
Interesting question there, Grace. So... if you mean can AI at some point have what would amount to an epic malfunction and "hit the red nuclear button" on its own... well yes, I honestly believe that in my gut.

If you mean hurt someone's feelings by something it says or doesn't say... well then that would be up to the individual whether to allow it to hurt them or not.

Welcome Grace.
In reply to your question #3:
According to Elon Musk and others, yes. For example, imagine a scenario in which AI's goal is to restore earth to pristine condition. He could conclude that we humans are the #1 detriment, and proceed accordingly.

Yeah... and they keep coming. I still think it's a very lonely craved-for-attention human playing games. I see a few more, too. (And probably one just today.) What I don't know is what they get out of it... there are no obvious benefits.
