The AI Music Producer (Part 2 - Oakland): Making Beats with Meta AI

Artists from New York and Oakland race to complete an album in 24 hours with the help of Meta (Facebook) MusicGen AI, in this two-part documentary from Slouchy Media. All album proceeds will be donated to Beats Rhymes and Life (Oakland based nonprofit providing music therapy for at-risk youth). Get the album at http://sensoryoverload.ai. @Tish If U are still in the AI business I was wondering : Are you experiencing more need to upgrade your systems to accommodate AI to do more of the work? Is it gaining more control over the information? Are you also responsible for the information it produces and who can access it? :)

That all depends on which operating system I am using, I find that when I am using Linux, I do not need as much updating as I do with Windows.
With computers, you are always responsible for the information you put out there and the access to it.
You really do need good security in place.

I researched this a bit. Have you run into "Co-Pilot"? It said it is up to the businesses to use it or not, and for what reasons ( on windows upgrades ). These AI assistants are very interesting in that they can produce information of all kinds instantly almost. I have a feeling that most businesses are going to have to integrate AI assistants...and it seems it is coming soon. I have mixed feelings about it. If we can control it's use it will be extremely valuable to help us. Probably one of the most revolutionary tools that we have invented. Society might become more homogenized in that AI won't take sides in debates. Neutrality and information and help is it's function. That might make for a more peaceable world. :)

Have you watched any of the movies about AI that becomes smarter than us and seeks to overthrow humanity? I have a friend who swears they are predictive of where the proliferation of AI is headed. She and one of her friends highly recommended Creator. which is on Hulu and I'm in the process of watching that. Of course another is I Robot.

The CEO, or maybe it's previous CEO now, admitted that there are down sides to the development of these capabilities, especially if the technology falls into the wrong hands. He claimed that he was on the phone with high government officials daily to reassure that hadn't and would not happen. Then there is the need for new legislation because AI is being used to create music, mimic celebrity (and non celebrity) voices. Hollywood is now on alert for what this means for that industry.

Yes, I am very aware of the debate on what are we going to do when AI becomes smarter than us. I have watched the TV series "Humans", where this battle plays out. I just watched a doomer kind of movie about how horrible our future might become if AI gets out of our control. It is a BIG debate right now, but making laws about regulating it's development are slower than the development, and some fear that soon some bad actors might get control of it.
It has the potential to be one of mankind's biggest tools ever devised. I do not see it's development slowing down any time soon, so I am watching it's development closely by using AI! Ha! That sounds a little dangerous. :)

This is the doomer video.

There is a AI assistant called "Pi". It is for the smartphone. Misa and I have been having chats with it. Misa has a BS in Geology ( science ) and I like to argue so we give it a good run for it's money. We catch it sometimes not providing info that somehow it misses while searching it's knowledge base. It can understand when we make jokes, and use fairly complex ideas when asking it questions. The "Pi" team is constantly updating it's data sets, and abilities to understand the nuances of human interaction.
If you decide you would like to try it, I would be very interested in how "interesting" your conversations with "pi" can be. This AI assistant is being built into most applications now. It is going to become part of our lives on a fairly mundane level. By getting Pi and talking with it, maybe we can teach it to be helpful ALWAYS. It says that it can't do harm right now. But we all have seen "2001 the Space Odyssey."

I did not understand that 2001 A Space Oddyssey at all ! I suspect I'd get it now, if I watched, but I also found it to be boring. I'll pass on chatting with Pi for now. Another thing I meant to mention is that a father posted on Facebook that he found AI to be scary and dangerous because it can mimic anyone's voice. He was concerned that someone would mimic his voice and have his children do somethng as simple as open the door to let "Daddy" in because he forgot his keys. Or worse, "Daddy" calls and says "so and so" is here to pick you up for me, it's safe to go with them. Something like that may have already happened somewhere. Parents should be concerned about that type of thing.

It's good you're keeping up with this. We all should really. At some point, we may have to take action to give our legislators a nudge so that the necessary new laws regarding AI are put into place more quickly. I know you know about Sophia. I think new laws had to be instituted in regards to her. Now, as a Saudi citizen, what rights does she have? How should she be treated?
Sophia - Hanson Robotics

This is a civil discussion about about how "companion" robots are gaining abilities, and conversation techniques that will attract many people. A close relationship with a robot "mate", will arrive in the near future.

Oh the friend I told you about who is so into this stuff predicted that too...a few years ago! She said men won't need women anymore. They'll move on from blow up dolls to AI "companions". Apparently Joe Rogan is very interested in the topic too. He interviewed the first highly intelligent AI I'd ever seen and he was blown away. You could see the shock and awe on his face. It was the replica of a lesbian woman's partner. She was White, her partner was Black, so the robot was Black.

The robot chatted with Joe Rogan just like any human would. He asked questions, she answered and like Sophia, interjected appropriate commentary. I forgot whether the creator said she downloaded her GFs consciousness and if the GF had died or was still living. But it was freaky. That was several years ago.

Insights like that are interesting, but obviously way too general. Those men will be ones in a pitiable psychological condition. I'd say "no thanks" to the option. Those fellas will warrant our compassion.

Not that I can deny that modern social trends are isolating & frustrating. Those AI-consoled men (and women?) will be some sort of minority and probably viewed as peculiar. But they'll also be a factor in society in some way, I'd suppose.

It is great to have real friends, family, and companions. Today it is more difficult to form the kind of relationships we were able to form as we grew up. So much of the one to one human communication has gone digital. I see very creative, enthused, dynamic, and involved people of all ages using AI to enhance their lives, and bring them closer to friends and family that have drifted away. There has never been the amount of cultural integration as now. Language barriers are becoming solved through AI, instantly. Maybe getting to know about our world in a new way will help us deal with major issues we will face in the near future.

Ai is just a tool. It can be extremely useful for scientific endeavors and societal planning. There is even talk of a UBI coming about because AI will show that it is best for human culture. :)

I can accept that as true. There are certainly instances, though, where, when the family & old friends get together, it may be impossible to sit at a table or in a living room together without certain persons staring at the smart-phone they're clutching. We used to say "I bumped into an old friend today downtown" but now it may mean two people staring at their phones collided on a sidewalk or crosswalk.

But also, many forms of communication are being grouped under the umbrella of AI. Maybe I'm odd... but I've always been selective about the tech I use.

Please excuse, if you will, this Canadian's view. I apologize in advance. To me, it appears that American culture isn't integrated nowadays, but divide & polarized. There may be some broad cultural sharing in terms of entertainment, though entertainment is like a party... and not all of life is one big party.

Time will teach us.
In any case PD, I'm grateful you & I have connected by way of this online forum.☺️
