Alarm system on our mobiles

So we will all get a danger alert on our mobiles. I think it is a good idea, but I wonder if it will be used wisely?
I hope it's not yet another way to worry us over things the way the media always does.
I wonder if this is part of preparation for the next pandemic?

What type of alert are you talking about @Rose65?
I get emergency weather alerts and amber alerts on my iPhone. I think that’s it.
Apparently we are all going to be able to be contacted by the government on our mobiles in times of real danger. Test call in April.

We get alerts for kids missing as well as weather emergencies. I appreciate the weather notices. It warns us about storms coming in we weren’t aware of. Weather can change at any time. It’s good to know.

This happened to me towards the end of the last lockdown.

My phone let out a loud siren type alarm and a red "ALERT" message on a black background was flashing on the screen followed by a message that there was an emergency situation in progress at a nearby location and I should leave the area immediately. There were instructions as to which route I should take out of the area and even a gathering point to head for if I needed assistance.

When I got home, I Googled and apparently an alert system in case of a major incident or catastrophe was being tested out on some networks. I guess it is the same, or very similar, to the proposed alarm this coming April?

I get weather alerts pretty often. Also, occasional Amber alerts about missing children. A couple of weeks ago, an alert went out about an elderly gentleman suffering from dementia who had gone missing. He was found, unharmed, a few hours later. I think these alerts are a good use of our alarm systems.

Something like that, wouldn't be ignored by me. In most "Amber Alerts" it's custodial stuff. But for a person suffering from dementia, even someone to talk to may save a life and what a feeling to have helped!
