"AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — For years, bombastic far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones ranted to his millions of followers that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax, that children weren’t killed and that parents were crisis actors in an elaborate ruse to force gun control.

Under oath and facing a jury that could hit him with $150 million or more in damages for his false claims, Jones said Wednesday he now realizes that was irresponsible and believes that what happened in the deadliest school shooting in American history was “100% real.”

Jones’ public contrition came on the final day of testimony in a two-week defamation lawsuit against him and his Austin-based media company, Free Speech Systems, brought by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, the parents of 6-year-old Jesse Lewis. Their son was a first grader who was among the 20 students and six teachers killed at the school in Newtown, Connecticut, on Dec. 14, 2012." apnews

I wish more people would sue those who are spreading the disinformation we have seen over the past few years. It is done for shock value, money, to increase their viewership with no regard to what it does to the individuals they are smearing as well as society as a whole.

The problem is, there's so much money to be made spreading disinformation that it's worth it to the media outlets that do it to keep doing it. Alex Jones will probably delay and appeal and just flat out refuse to pay, and nothing will happen to him because he has millions of dollars to spend while those seeking justice will run out of money and eventually give up. As long as people keep contributing to him and others like him, they'll continue to spread lies.
 
Those parents have had their grief and trauma magnified by Jones' followers threatening and harassing them. He didn't just express his opinion. If he had just done that once his apology might mean something but the lie was repeated over and over for the sake of making money.

Since money is what he values the most, IMO he should be stripped of money until he begins to understand how grievous his offence was, and still is.

I think if he actually believed in what came out of his mouth, that would be a defense. But he spewed out nontruths as a political ploy. And his doings were only part of a larger plan to spread dissention and disinformation for political gains.

Actually it happens all the time, but usually they cite "privilege" when they realize the blunder. Years ago I used to do paralegal. You'd be surprised how many dumb mistakes are made - especially during discovery. Other funny things used to happen - one company prez took the office cat and rubbed it all around the chairs of the plaintiffs coming into review his files. He knew the lead attorney was seriously allergic to felines.
 
What I have such a hard time wrapping my head around is the millions of seriously challenged people that listen to this guy and pave his streets with gold. Have we descended this far in America that we could actually want to believe this kind of
fabricated crap? What is so lacking in people's lives that they become that gullible?!

That's the million dollar question. I actually know real people in Real Life who are otherwise lucid and rational, nevertheless believe this kind of toxin. Of course they invariably accuse any that don't of being hooked on 'fake news'. :unsure:

Too little too late for that scum. I hope he gets hit hard and is held fully accountable for all the damage he has done and all the heartbreak he profited from. They need to crack down on people like this, civilian or otherwise.

I doubt too many people sincerely believe the drivel he spews. They're just looking for reasons and excuses to hate, and that's what he provides. People seem to love to hate. Maybe it's due to the bond they have with other haters, like a common cause.
 
To see a different point of view, I randomly read online papers like the NY Post. Today I can’t see yesterday’s article on Jones. It was a straight forward report; at the end 308 liked the article, 327 thought it was garbage. Of course, I have no idea who or what their definition of garbage is.
