Alex Trebek-Jeopardy: Sexist comment?

I think this is one of those situations where people should be reminded to "choose your battles." With all the horrendous accusations coming out against men lately, this little blip is hardly worth all
the attention some are giving it. Save your feminine wrath, ladies, for issues that matter (sexual harassment and worse, unequal job opportunities, etc.).

With many of those little "conversations" between Trebek and the contestants, I sometimes wonder if the contestants were told they had to come up with something "interesting" about themselves that they could have a 30-second conversation about. Some of them seem to have gotten their stories out of the bottom of the barrel. Think about it a moment: what if you were a contestant, and were told you had to come up with something interesting and funny, about yourself, that could be discussed in a few seconds?

I have a feeling this topic was provided by the woman herself, who thought the "tough woman" angle might be worthy of a mention. And Trebek is taking all the flak for it!

Isn't the term sexual harassment kind of a 'broad-brush' statement? I mean what exactly is it ? Has there ever been a clear definition of it ? I heard recently that it is considered....when ever unwanted sexual advances are made. Problem is that in some cases that also includes what used to be a 'pass' & or a simple flirt. Do we really want to stop the sexes from flirting with each other?.. Isn't that sort of a slippery slope ?

Sexual assault ! Yes...that is a whole other issue, that needs to be dealt with differently, and of course rape , once proven....indeed, punish to the max.

I just can't help but think that all this sexual harassment talk/accusation/ and such. Confuses the the more serious issues.

Since so much of it is centered around the male behavior, let's stay with that. If a man ask a women for a date, that IS NOT sexual harassment....just because he doesn't look like G.Clooney.
And if he touches ? and it is not witnessed, recorded ? in some other manner....it is, like it or not,... a moot point. Because,.....it is merely he said-she said. And speaking only for myself, I refuse to believe one side over the other. I refuse to punish a man in any manner on accusation alone.

Good point about the recording and other type evidence. That's really what got this stuff out in the open and believed in the first place i.e., the recordings of Harvey Weinstein doing his thing as well as other audio, video, photographic evidence, etc. I agree about he said she said. But now women and others will start getting evidence by recorders on their person. "What a large belt buckle you have, my dear." :anonymous:

Gretchen Carlson recorded Roger Ailes (ex-CEO @ FOX) before the Weinstein cases came out in the open.

But in most of the recent cases the men have admitted inappropriate sexual behavior - it's not just he said/she said. Some have apologized, some not.

My Dad was a Veteran in the Army for 40 years....He is not with us since 2001...So he would've been 100 years old today...Anyway, my dad was a kibitzer..to all get out!!! He would say things that
people would laugh at, even women...Back in the day women were a little easier with (politically uncorrect) remarks....My dad wasn't mean he just said what he said and people would laugh...I know
now a days, SOME WOMEN...would probably get him fired...But people loved him because he was a generous man who would give a person his clothes off of his back...(Old saying)....

So that was how it was in the Olden days...But back to the Jeopardy incident, I wouldn't think the remark was a bad thing....even though I don't watch the show...Men are going to be afraid to
talk to a Woman....They'll be afraid they will say something wrong....

As per an employment / hiring expert on talk radio, it has already begun. SHE, said that some companies are already shying away from hiring women. Because of the uneasy work environment they now create.

Not sure how they can do that ? but she said it is all in the wording of the rejection, and that the rejection must be in writing.
 
Yes, Alex is spouting rampant, immoral, misogynist, sexist rhetoric. Did he say anything was so misogynist, that she was unable to continue with the game? Did anything he say, remove her from the game? Did anything he say, give male contestants better odds of winning? Did anything he say, stopped women from ever winning on the show? Did anything he say, give extra points to male contestants?
If that's the most horrendous sexist case you can find, your anti-sexist movement just ran out of ammunition. And it is nonsense, like making Alex's comment a crucial element of your cause, which causes others to wonder about the veracity of your movement.

I saw the show, nothing of consequence happened or was said. Not even worth mentioning, I don't understand how this was even noticed.

Some media must be hungry for something to expound upon.
