Alexa Instructs 10 Year Old To Put A Penny in An Exposed Socket

Interesting article. A relative gave me a gift certificate for Amazon so yesterday I went on their website wondering what I should buy. I don't need anything but hey, I have to spend this some how. The first thing that came up was this Alexa speaker. I went straight to the comments by people who actually bought it. Some were happy but many were not. As for me, I don't need more junk or more complications in my life! They say Google knows more about you then you know about yourself. I think I'm starting to believe this to be true.
Maybe you can buy groceries or toiletries. Need new socks or T-shirts? Amazon has some of everything.

@ohioboy Thank you for posting a workable link. :) (@Murrmurr)

The mother and daughter were doing challenges on TikTok. Seems like that’s where the blame should be going. Once they or someone is sued, dangerous games like this will stop.
That has been a problem with these challenge things on social media sites...... same reason so many idiots were trying to eat laundry soap
many have gotten hurt by odd challenges and suggestions.....
Who are they going to sue track down the original person they would need to prove intent to harm
most would simply tell the truth that they are idiots and have zero regard that someone might be hurt trying to copy them

Same with the Amazon Firestick for your TV. I googled how to turn off different things on the firestick. Here is what I found. I wanted to get rid of my Comcast/Xfinity TV box, they raised the rental price on Jan. 1st from $4.00 up to $12.00 a month. So when it gets here I'll go through & do all the below.

They should sue Tik Tok for not removing dangerous games.
Tik Tok like facebook or you-tube has people posting things..... their crack censorship folks do not take down especially these challenges because maybe someone not on their site will join....
they would not mind if someone did get hurt because it is free publicity and in that world good or bad keep your name/ product in the conversation.

I understand what u are saying but I love our Alexa..we have a speaker in multiple rooms. I often ask her to play a song or ask what is the temperature, humidity, time or have her set a timer for something...at the present, she is turning on and off our Christmas tree.
I don't have one, but I am glad to learn about things, and thanks, Serenity.
I would have guessed I never would want one, but you point out the good uses for one, for an adult, and as long as one is careful.

Of course, the original topic of this thread is frightful, and yes, children using Alexa, as a substitute for adults or without supervision or instructions, is a scary possibility!
As was said above, there are a lot of newer things that current parents and adults need to teach children, in addition to the ones of the past.

Unfortunately, there are still too many parents and adults who take Jeff Foxworthy's approach: "Let 'em pull that 400-pound t.v. over on their heads- they'll learn!" :(

I agree with you Michael, but remember, just in case, ;)
that if a machine ever gives you advice, you don't have to follow it!😁:ROFLMAO:

You are free to decide whether or not you believe it is good advice!

We happen to live in a cell phone dead zone. So the cell phone GPS will not work. As I go on my run, I don't know how many times I have, in broad daylight, turned people around needing directions to head north when they were heading south! Folks these days hardly know their directions and are helpless without their phone.

I really enjoy ours. There are no small children in our house so no abuse.

I am not a fan of any machine talking to me and giving advice. I will grudgingly consent to use of GPS by my wife in a strange big city at times if my maps will not suffice, but that is about it. No Alexa or Siri for me!

And I have had the GPS give bad instructions at times!
The bad instructions can be irritating. Also the directions of 'go north or south etc..drive me nuts ..I can't tell N from S or E or W :D
