Aliens landed in your yard. How would you explain humanity to them?

If they could travel thru space and land in my back yard. They would be intelligent enough to know an 80 yr. old man dressed in shorts, T shirt & flip flops BBQ'ing a steak was no threat to them.

So.

I would test communication by asking them to explain their experiment of putting humans on planet earth. If communication was established, I'd ask if their experiment has evolved as anticipated. I'm pretty sure monitoring human progress in their experiment was the reason for coming to my back yard. Even very intelligent beings don't always know how to BBQ a steak to perfection.
