Following a driver who is acting like a lunatic and then confronting him is never a good idea. He could have a gun, and whether he does or not, he is driving violently and might behave violently.
I have to admit that I once did what you are suggesting. Some guy kept changing lanes and repeatedly cutting me off. I am not a particularly slow driver; he just was amusing himself by zipping from one lane to another. He pulled into my neighborhood, and I decided to follow him. When he stopped in front of a neighbor's house and got out, I also got out and bawled him out. He was a young man, very sheepish and apologetic about the way he had been driving. But it could have turned out differently, and I realized right afterward how stupid I was to follow and confront him. There are a lot of nut cases out there.
