Amazon Scam E-Mail

A note from Amazon popped up in my e-mail this afternoon. It said that Amazon had placed a "Hold" on my account and any orders I had placed, because the billing information did not match that in my account. It said I needed to update my account info.

I Do Not have an Amazon account, nor do I have anything on order from that site.
The sender of this note is some site with an address consisting of dozens of letters, None of which consist of a word.

So, be aware....some hacker/thief is sending out notes that some might consider taking action on, simply because they have an "Amazon" account.

I've also gotten one and it is amazing how authentic they look. This week we got an "unknown" phone call advising that there was a suspicious $120 charge on my Amazon account and I should press 1 immediately. Like you I don't have an Amazon account.
I am sure getting tired of this crap!

This one appeared in my regular e-mail folder....that is usually the case the 1st time a spam message is sent. Once I move it to Spam, any further mailings then go directly to spam.

Ok. You need to start making sure to mark the spam items as spam when they hit your inbox. Usually all those letters in the sender email is a dead giveaway.

I was getting ones from some place pretending to be Facebook informing me of an attempt to get into my acct. LOL

Those spammers are sneaky. I don't know how some of it gets to the inbox.

I got a similar email like that from Amazon.Even though I have an account at Amazon I didn't click on what they said to click on suspecting it was spam.

I got the same e-mail. I suspected it was a scam & I later ordered things that arrived on time.

Yes, I’ve gotten the Az thing, but I closed my account there several months ago. Beware of Bank of America telling you your account Is locked due to unauthorized attempts to access. I don’t have a B of A acct either.

I got an email yesterday, supposedly sent by a person I know slightly and have occasionally exchanged emails with in the past. (We belong to the same theatrical performing group). The email had the title "Urgent question from (his name)" and said he needs to know if I have an Amazon account.

This sounded highly dubious, so I immediately emailed him (at one of his other email addresses) asking if it was on the level. Of course, it wasn't. I guess he had been hacked.

These scam artists are getting more clever all the time. This email really looked authentic and had a real address for the sender. The only thing that aroused an alarm button with me was that the question was so odd. So, be careful!

I get a lot of stuff like that. Most goes straight to spam, but still, some gets through. Of course I delete without opening.

Thanks for this! My neighbor just ordered some yard-related items for me from her Amazon account, but using my email. I may have fallen for this!

I get a fair amount of spam as described above, but only to my main address. (I use a separate email address for Amazon.) Like most of you, I mark them as spam and delete.

I got one in my work email... that has no ties at all to my Amazon account...
If i ever get an email or call, I dont reply to it, but go to my account directly...

Go to the Amazon website and call their customer service number.
Explain the situation, and ask them to determine whether someone has accessed your account.

Yes Don, Getting popups on Amazone-mail that i can't delete. Got it fixed but I don't click on Amazon in my e-mail anymore. I go to the site,if I have a delivery question. I'm more careful what I click on! Thanks for the warning though!

I can relate; about every other month, I get bogus e-mails telling me that my Amazon, eBay, or PayPal account has been locked, and wanting me to contact them via a provided link. They want to make you fearful, and respond immediately without thinking. The latest scam informs me that my Netflix trial is over, and I must update my payment information. I've never put in for a Netflix trial...

I've never put in for a Netflix trial...

I have gotten those exact emails. Anytime I want to make sure it is a scam, I log out of my email account and log in to the account that is in question. There has never been one that is true. I've gotten one about the Netflix also and I don't do anything but say, "well, dummies, I don't have a Netflix account trial or anything Netflix" and then I mark it as phishing.

No, I did a search also for this Netflix email and a lot of people were getting the exact email with the same links. Plus, I haven't gotten anything from NetFlix about it so someone was trying to scam me.

I get similar emails from PayPal, not just Amazon. I can tell they're phishing emails when they do NOT address me by name. I also check the email address they're coming from.

I've made it a habit to fwd them to spoof dept of the company. I never click links on the emails and delete them right after sending to spoof.
