America land of the free

Ahhh, yes, the pros and cons of being a geezer, probably mostly cons though...

I don't think women will be free as long as they think they 'need' a man for survival. Women must make themselves as strong as they can, even if it means learning to defend themselves with a weapon. Martial arts is a good skill to have. You never know when it might come in handy.

I agree. When I was working we saw so many women going back to their abuser, mostly with the reasoning that they could not make it on their own.

Sure, we can do anything here we want (with the leftover money the governement allows us to keep, and provided we comply with about 28 zillion Federal, state and local laws, and provided we dont offend someone, or discriminate because of someones race, color, creed, national origin, gender or sexual orientation, and provided you dont mind being on hidden camera, bugged telephone, hidden microphone, license plate reader, or red light camera and provided we have applied for, and been approved for all 50 or so permits and paid the applicable fees. ) And I am sure I forgot some things.

But yeah, we are totally free. (sarcasm alert on)

Actually, being stalked by a violent ex husband would give me an incentive to join a rifle club and learn to shoot but it wouldn't really save me. I'd probably be better off feeding him poisoned scones.

Perhaps society would be a lot safer if the women were armed but the men were not.

You don't have to "learn" to shoot. That part is easy. Pick up gun, put finger on trigger and squeeze. But, you do have to learn to be good at it.

I did attempt to shoot at a target once when I was 17 years old. It was a .22 cal rifle but I couldn't line up the sights properly because I'm right handed and cannot close my left eye. I would need an eye patch. I couldn't hit a barn side on at short range.

I haven't tried since.

There is lots and lots of domestic violence here in America. Many don't make the papers, but I assure you they are not forgotten in their struggles when it happens to them.
"It is estimated that 2 million to 4 million US women are assaulted by a domestic partner every year. Twelve million women (25% of the female population) will be abused in their lifetime. Up to 35% of women and 22% of men presenting to the emergency department have experienced domestic violence." It's very sad really.
