American tourist denied visit with pope, smashed Roman busts in Vatican museums: report

The tourist asked to see the pope while visiting the Vatican museums.

An American tourist on Wednesday threw a tantrum and cracked two Roman busts in the Vatican Museums after officials denied him an audience with Pope Francis.

The unidentified tourist, said to be in his fifties, was in the Chiaramonti Gallery when he requested to visit the pope. When told he could not visit the pope, the tourist grabbed an antique marble bust and threw it on the ground, damaging it.

How could this happen? No security?🤔

What a stupid, childesh, mama's boy, tourist who really needs to grow up. I pity his wife if he has one. No wonder I don't like tourists and most people don't like them either. Unless you own a tourist shop, a restaurant or some sort of accommodation where you make money of tourists. I like to do my own thing and therefore, call myself a traveler. Tourists: 😡😡

When you visit another country, or any place outside of your own country, you are an ambassador of sorts for your country. You are representing your country. You want people to like and accept you and like your country and your fellow countrymen. When I visited the UK (actually London) 3 times in the mid 1980's, I was very respectful of the British people (which was very easy since I have always liked the British, and some of my ancestors were from the UK), I was always polite to them, and on my best behavior. Why? I wanted them to like us Americans and our country.

This American idiot who broke those busts, stick him jail for awhile. It serves him right. Did he actually think some stranger can just walk up and demand to see the Pope? Sounds like a moron to me.

This isn't just vandalism they damaged historical artifacts which are irreplaceable or one of a kind. They can buy or make something similar but it will not be that item. The lack of appreciation or respect for history in general is astounding.

Maybe he was there to try to have the Pope reconsider his position on some very important issues that the Catholic Church is influencing on public policy. When the meeting was denied... he took his anger out on the massive wealth the Church has accumulated. Somebody needs to speak out about how terribly powerful the Church influences dogmatic and harmful practices.

This is definitely not the logical or sensible way to do it.
