When you have about 15 minutes or so to learn about China's economy according to Americans who have lived there, consider what they are telling us. We need direction, because our economy is failing.

Our economy is far from failing. I won't waste time watching this clickbait. These kinds of posts just seem to be intended to stir up discontent.
I should of said our "economy is failing most Americans". It is top heavy with very little middle class, and a growing (fast ) a lower class. We can't afford to live here anymore. The food, housing, rent, education cost, health care, and affordable healthy food. It is failing us. Some things need addressing immediately for this to be turned around. If you are discontent because your car isn't running very well, I can understand why you would think this serious consideration of our hardship with this economy makes one feel discontent, because it isn't working very well! :)

I don't think America could ever be put into the category of a third world country that is underdeveloped with little access to healthcare and poverty being rampant. It seems those making this statement are viewing certain aspects of society as being better than the US, and I'm sure there are some.

America has always focused on freedom and individuality. China, not so much. Is walking the streets in China safer at night? Most likely it would be because of a more controlled society, so it comes at a cost. Even their infrastructure is probably better than ours, but their taxation rate is higher and the work week longer, so again, no free lunch.

As for our economy having it's problems, it certainly does. The downside of freedom and being in a capitalistic society is an uneven distribution of wealth. We want high paying jobs, low taxation, and all the privileges and benefits we can get. That recipe has put us in a financial hole with little hope of escape. I don't view it as the economy failing us because we created it. We live in denial by voting for those who promise us steak even though we have a hamburger budget. Anyway, JMO, that's all.

I highly doubt that most folks have no idea what 3rd world country's are like. Yet, you'll always see them comparing the US to one, (then, using some run down spot in our country as proof).
Well ok, let's use... say, Gary Indiana as an example.

Downtown Gary Indiana, near Broadway and Grant Street, is frequently cited for high crime and urban decline, aligning with the "worst area" projection. Lord knows it's not exactly a booming metropolis as evidenced by Gary’s overall crime rate of 37 per 1,000 residents and a high murder rate and run down or abandoned buildings. Yet, right in the heart of this area, Methodist Hospitals - Northlake Campus is located at 600 Grant Street, within what is the highest-crime zone, with a 1 in 27 chance of being a victim of any crime.

What 3rd world has medical care in it's center?

If your not familiar with Jeffrey Sachs...wiki him. :)

There was a French philosopher named Rene Girard who founded the idea of mimetic theory. He observed that we encourage others to imitate or emulate us, until they desire what we desire, and then that imitation becomes rivalry.

In the past, we wanted China to be more like us. We built lots of factories, assembly lines, made lots of stuff, created jobs, made a thriving economy, and lived fairly well. It made sense to them as a way to lift a considerable portion of their population out of poverty, so that's what they did. They did it so well, and created a better economy, and now they are our economic rivals.

In the world order, China has now become a giant, and whatever we may think of their authoritarian socialist form of government, it works for them. Their cities are modern, technologically advanced, logistically integrated, and crime is quite low. Sure, they may have unfair trade practices, but we are not without sin either. China is becoming a superpower economically and militarily. It's just a reality we must face and do the best we can.

I read a book called The Problem of China written by Bertrand Russell in 1922. In it he predicted that China would one day become a major industrial power, something that didn't seem very likely at the time. They were in the middle of a civil war and being invaded by Japan.

He also predicted a war between Japan and the U.S., and that the U.S. would win.

If you are interested in the subject, it's a free download at Project Gutenberg.

After WWII, China was a devasted nation torn by civil war, and political upheaval. China reinvented itself and turned itself into a superpower. The vast majority of China has been built within a few decades, so it is bright, shiny and new. Whether China makes the US & the West seem like 3rd world nations, is debatable. The reason is China provides no data about its economy, crime rates, poverty, etc. Without data, it just personal opinions. But I would classify China as a very prosperous nation.

While I love America, it does have serious problems that seem to be getting worse.

I absolutely hate our government's propaganda that portrays the US as being so much better than everyone else.

Maybe if Americans and it's government simply faced the ways things really are, there would be more motivation to improve things?
It saddens me to agree with you. People want easy solutions and there are none.

Is patriotism good or bad? I'd say both. In every war there are patriots on both sides.
