America's First Terrorist Organization

It was the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) which was formed during Re Construction after the Civil War 1866 and unfortunately lasted almost 100 years. To the best of my knowledge it was the only-organization that could truly be called Terrorist that the U.S. has ever had.

I would think the Boston Tea Party featured the first real domestic terrorists.

Or, if you want to go back a bit further, how about the smallpox-laden blankets that were handed out to the native populations? How about the massacres of those populations?

How about the Seminole Wars, all three of them, from 1816 through 1858? Just because it was the U.S. army doing the killing doesn't mean it wasn't terrorism ...

Those who win get to write the history.

You are talking about events. My OP is about organizations that promote terrorist activities.

This seems to be about the best definition I find.

Terrorism
In the international community, terrorism has no legally binding, criminal law definition. Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts that are intended to create fear (terror); are perpetrated for a religious, political, or ideological goal; and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (e.g., neutral military personnel or civilians).

Terrorism has been active in this country before the term was popular. The KKK is not, was not the only group who have committed acts of terror in our history. We have had plenty of strikes and riots and violent protest.
Or does the fact some think it was/is a worthy cause make it not terrorism?

First organized groups to commit acts of terror were pirates, flying the skull and crossbones, just like they do today.

C'mon Sid----The Klan was an organization with a stated purpose, initiation rites, literature promoting their violent acts etc. Give the name of any other organization with stated purposes that are similar.

All right, then.

The organization known as The United States of America.

"An organization with a stated purpose, initiation rites, literature promoting their violent acts etc."

The stated purpose:

1. A free-trade zone, to give the efficiencies of trade over a sizable market.
2. A powerful army, to be able to assert oneself in the world and boss around other countries.
3. The power of deciding who to let into the country.
4. The power to transfer wealth to politically influential interest groups from a large population of productive citizens.

Initiation rites:

Also known as Immigration Laws, Citizenship tests, licensing of all types, the draft, public education

Literature promoting their violent acts:

SEE: U.S. Army Field Manuals, including:

  • FM 3-0.5.130, Army Special Operations Forces Unconventional Warfare
  • FM 5–31, Boobytraps
  • FM 3–24, Insurgencies and Countering Insurgencies
  • FM 34-52, Intelligence Interrogation

Et al.

Those who took part in Saratoga and Yotktown and the like were the first American terrorists, as any Brit will tell you!

As usual, the British Government gave in to them!

The last sentence is interesting.......at the time, in South Africa, the government there thought that what Nelson Mandela and his friends did was terrorism, others thought he was a freedom fighter.

The KKK may have been our First US terrorist organization, but in recent years the Most Destructive and Violent "Terrorists" in this nation are the Drug and Street Gangs which have turned portions of most of our major cities into little more than zones of Anarchy. These thugs are responsible for the major share of shootings, murders, and violence that occurs on a daily basis. Although they may not be united under a single "banner", they still do more damage to this nation than all the "formal" Terrorists combined.

:lol1:, You all are too funny. Make me giggle:cheers1:. IMO- all are terrorists mentioned are legit terrorist per the definition.
Bunch of Bullies!!!!:darth:
