Sleeping peacefully, and around 3.15 my time was shaken awake by a magnitude 4.4 earthquake! Really? In Tennessee? The epicenter was actually in Decatur TN, about 150 miles from Nashville. But it was strong enough to wake me, and cause things on my shelves to rattle. I just lay there, wondering if that was the pre-shock to a bigger one, but no, there was one milder after shock and that was it. Took me a while to relax and go back to sleep.
I used to live in California, and lived through a couple of horrendous quakes...anyone familiar with the Whittier/Narrows quake? That was the last one before I got the heck outta Dodge, I HATE the things. Tennessee isn't on a major fault line like California and the San Andreas fault, so it was surprising to discover, when I searched the net, that the eastern Tennessee seismic zone is one of the most active earthquake areas in the southeast.
