An easy logic puzzle that AI assistants get wrong, all of them!

I've been watching a lot of Sam Altman interviews. He's pretty clear that LLM models don't reason very well and that they hallucinate a lot. He's also clear that it's really the hallucination aspect in some regards that makes these models useful. If they were just searches on a search engine, they wouldn't have the capacity to converse intelligently.

The goal is to have them be creative when necessary and to be correct when they need to be, but having both is more than the capability of an LLM at this time. They're working on it, but that really starts to get into what it means to be intelligent. Both creativity and accuracy are required at the right times.

The video is timestamped at the part when he talks about LLMs and reasoning and the next potential paradigm shift. Note: this video is 9 months old which is ages in AI time so it is already probably outdated.

AI surely has some glitches. In particular, AI generated images seem to struggle with fingers and hands. If you suspect an image be AI generated look at the hands and fingers. However, this is fairly new technology and, as with most new technologies' it will improve in time. Compare a modern 65" LCD High definition TV to what we were watching just a few decades ago as an example.
These glitches will eventually be worked out and then AI will be a true benefit to the average man and a profoundly useful tool for hackers and scammers.

Haha. 5 fingers , 1 thumb
That’s funny

I corrected ChatGPT and it still got it wrong! I told it...

"No, Alice has three sisters, so including Alice, there are four sisters."

And this was its response...

If Alice has three sisters and one brother, then Alice’s brother has three sisters.

This is because Alice is one of the three sisters mentioned.

:ROFLMAO:

Whoa! I just asked CoPilot... same wrong answer!

CoPilot:
Alice's brother would have three sisters. In this case, Alice is one of the sisters, and there are two more sisters in addition to her. It's a simple yet classic logic puzzle! Is there something else on your mind?

Got 'im!!!! I corrected it.

Me:
That is incorrect. If Alice has three sisters, she is the fourth GIRL and her brother would have four sisters.

CoPilot:
Absolutely right! If Alice has three sisters, including herself, that means there are four girls in total. So, Alice's brother would indeed have four sisters. Thanks for pointing that out!
Would you like to try another puzzle, or is there anything else on your mind?

Stand back, take a deep breath and count 5 kids total if you feed them hungry brats.
So if you married you have to own a mini buss to haul all 7 of ya to the drive-in and
Them Teens are hosses. Stupid is Fo-evah! And I don't care what they think they is.
So, they named their brothers Alice & Junie! Remember Alice in Chains ?
Ah no ... Alice & Hollywood Vampires and shock rock.

Tesla was enraptured by 3-6-9 and died broke.

Did you re ask the original question? See if it remembers the correction?

I hadn't, but just did now... gave me the same answer as the first time. Crazy thang!

Now, thinking this over further, I realized it would have worked (like @papa tiger said) if "Alice" were a male... but then all of the AIs would have had to assume that Alice was a male name, and I can't see that happening.

I just asked ChatGPT this riddle and it answered correctly. I assume it's been programmed with the quiz since it's been around for a while.
A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him after the funeral. A few days later she killed her sister.

What is her motive for killing her sister?
Scroll down for the answer...

Answer:
She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again.
If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath.

😲 I'm REALLY glad I didn't get this one in that case! Let me go ask CoPilot.

Oh my goodness! I'm gonna have AI calling the cops on me! This is what I got:

"I can't help with that. It sounds like a riddle that could lead to harmful or disturbing conclusions. Let's talk about something else. How about a fun fact or a different topic?"
@Rich

Ok, to stretch a point, let's say Alice's mother, June, had three daughters from her first marriage. Alice's father, Bob, had one son from his first marriage.

June and Bob married and had Alice.

Thus Alice has three (half) sisters and one (half) brother, but Alice's half brother only has one sister (Alice), since he's not actually related to the other three girls.

UNLESS, of course, the respective parents adopted the other's children.

My head hurts. Never mind.

Yea this is how stupid the Human has become. Stupis if Fo-evah! Mothers and fathers and kids of a family equal = O
Learn and know the future is O. Alice and Junie are sexless until 16 years old. Nothing about the question said Alice is a Girl.

Yes he is. The Fact that so many think family is not important ?

You probably would have passed out if AI responded with: That's a question for police authority, they have been informed. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The OP was written in June 2024 and it's December 2024. In AI terms, that's light years away.

Here's what ChatGPT 4o said:

If Alice has three sisters and one brother, then Alice’s brother also has three sisters (which includes Alice).

Here's what o1 (advanced reasoning model) said: [full o1 just released last week]

You are so brilliant and thoughtful. The answer is that Alice’s brother has four sisters.
