Ancient Aliens

Paladin1950

Still love 50's & 60's music!
The History Channel has had this show on for years. Sometimes I watch it for entertainment reasons. They never seem to run out of rather incredible theories. During an episode I watched earlier, it was suggested that the human race did not originate on Earth, but we came from Mars. I thought that my ancestors came from Germany and the United Kingdom. While on Ancestry.com, I tracked my British family line with American and British census forms. I didn't see Martian census forms.

We all first heard of these theories in the Erich Von Daniken book Chariots of the Gods?. A few years later, I read a book titled Crash Go the Chariots, by someone called Clifford Wilson, which disproved (or tried to), everything that was in Von Daniken's book.

If you are really interested in Ancient Aliens, you should study
Indian history, India was a greater and older dynasty than China.

There are many stories about Nuclear wars and Flying Machines,
with descriptions and drawing/paintings about strange vehicles.

It is very interesting.

I am not Indian!

Mike.

Would you have a link to anything or the name of a book? I'd be curious.

Yes, when scanning Youtube you'll see numerous videos about "ancient aliens". Such as those that claim aliens were the builders of the Egyptian pyramids.

Is it any wonder why so many people are so irrational if they watch such nonsense ???? I often fear for the future of humanity if people take such drivel as fact.

Then again, people believe in an invisible man who lives in the sky, so why not ancient aliens ?

Grampa Don,

I will look for some interesting facts for you, after
you have a look, you can then ask Google for more.

Here is one, that I found informative.

Wikipedia, has a lot, I find their writings very boring.

Dwarka, the holiest City of India, built 10,000 years
ago, lies at the bottom of the sea.

The myth of Ancient Nuclear War in India.

I think that will keep you occupied for a while Grampa Don, enjoy.

Mike.

I love Ancient Aliens! I spent a good number of hours on Labor Day watching the marathon on the History Channel. I chatted with a fellow SF member about it then, and am hoping for another marathon soon, maybe on Thanksgiving Day? I hope you will join me then...you know who you are. 😘

So do I.

I'm a retired engineer, in the UK sense, not an engine driver, and I am not fooled by any conspiracy theories.
There are a lot of ancient monuments, temples etc. around The World that we would struggle to build with modern methods.

I don't understand why people run the ideas down but cannot come up with any evidence to the contrary, to dismiss the theory out of hand, shows a lack of imagination.

I tend to think that we are the aliens on this planet.

And a city one of the sky wars, involving Arjuna and flying machines happened over and long thought total myth was found pretty much where the Hindu scriptures descibed off the coast of India. So, as with Abrahamic Scriptures some of the stories might actually be oral history that got distorted over the generations.

I read Von Daniken's books back in the '70s.
Ancient Aliens is mildly entertaining, but the way it's presented is like how the FAKE news cable broadcasts do, trying to sneak in the insinuation of reality.
It bothered me greatly when what had been a respected documentary channel made this obvious play for ratings.

Also bothers me that one of the types of evidence tends to hinge on claiming 'primitive' people could not have discovered, built, invented certain things.

A while back there was a thread about how part of the reasons we haven't irrefutably crossed paths with aliens is timing and distance. Civilizations tend to ebb and flow here, while the reasons and time spans might be different on other worlds, the likely rise and fall elsewhere too.

So it is not that unrealistic to consider that a species peaking technologically might have visited us at a time when we were primitive enough to look on them as 'gods'. As scientist/author Arthur C. Clarke said--any sufficiently adanced technology would seem like magic. And different ones may be visiting in our time, but more wary of being open about because we are further along than back then.

I much prefer actual documentaries, even speculative ones like 'Life After People' that extrapolates from well known facts to consider what the world might look like after we're gone to the ancient aliens pap.

I keep an open mind about a lot of things, because i've had some shall we say non routine life experiences, but i also tend to think about things pragmatically, working from what i know.is possible.

Believe at your own peril what you see on youtube and tv about aliens today and also beware of the pseudoarceologists. No one has conclusive proof of anything. However I believe we are the product of ancient aliens. They came and they went and left their contribution on this planet Earth, US. There was no reason for them to linger, just as there is no reason for our present human race to hang about once we discover how to live on Mars. Once we are done here, we will go just like the ancient aliens, leaving only our DNA, for the next bunch who inhabit our depleted planet.

@Purwell said: "There are a lot of ancient monuments, temples etc. around The World that we would struggle to build with modern methods."

i agree with most of your post, the sentence i quoted is more proof of contemporary humankind's hubris than of ancient aliens lending a hand. We like to think we're the pinnacle of evolution, but when i see what passes for thought processes it is a good things we have libraries--because many people i observe unline would be utterly incapable of figuring out seasonal patterns or how to navigate by the stars!

I think I watched one or two episodes of that back when I still had cable TV. I don't disbelieve the possibility of it happening. The 'facts' as presented, though, always seemed a bit weak.

Scored a DVD titled the OBJECTIVE (2008, Jonas Ball) out of the $5 bin at a big box store, oh, about a year ago. I found it more believable and much more entertaining. "The Truth is Out There." :alien:
