And so it starts again..

Put this plant up for sale on Marketplace. A woman contacted me and said she'd come today at 10:30 am to get it. Rearranged my schedule and just received a PM saying she got mixed up on her time and wouldn't be able to come until tonight. I don't like people coming at night. I asked her to choose another day between 10 am and 3 pm. Haven't heard back. I could have used this time to be moving.

Deb, look at the big picture. Your time is worth something also. Selling a plant just isn't worth the trouble, especially since so many people are unreliable about showing up. Just give the plants away.

(Why can't you keep your plants? I'm just curious.)

The roofer just came - 1/2 hour past the appointmet time. Always the same story - got tied up on a job. I said I called him at 2:10 and he said he didn't get the call. Then he said he'd probably do it next week. Likely wants to make sure my check clears.

The woman that wanted a plant stand didn't take it because the metal wasn't painted black. I clearly stated in my ad it was gold painted. Maybe she actually thought it was too dirty and had to think up another excuse. Crikey - it a used flowerpot! It has dirt and water stains.

Deb, if I were you, I'd save myself a lot of time and aggravation and just give away small things like that for free. In my area, a lot of folks put out items in their driveway or front yard with a FREE sign. I've given away things like that in the past. I had a big nice three dimensional framed map of the United States and it was gone within an hour or so.

I agree with giving away. Curb side or otherwise. Donating.

This is going to drive you nuts and exhaust you I'm afraid. Do you have thrift stores that pick up? Also take quality things you still want to sell to your new place and have some yard sales there. What's left donate.

I don't like the people who now run the our local animal benefit thrift store. The woman who co-started it was wonderful. But they help fund spay and neuter so I still donate and shop there. I can get rid of things, rotate things out and benefit animals.

Any causes in your area you would like to donate items to?

I've already sent about 10 thirty gallon bags of donations of clothing and bedding to the city mission through people that go there. It's in a tough section of Albany. I don't want to go there. The mission doesn't take anything else unless you bring it to them - they don't do pick-ups.

Like a big coffee mug. I've found most people want things in "like new" condition, then don't want to pay anything.

As is is, the first person's refusal made me go to the next person. We got PMing back and forth and she said she liked moving sales and would bring plenty of money. So the first woman's refusal may have opened another door. Let's see if she actually shows up.

Recently, I got rid of a chandelier that came with my apartment, that I hated but lived with for 6 years. Finally got a new hanging light that I like a lot better, but what to do with a large crystal chandelier that looks like it belongs in Tzarist Russia?

My son came over and put it in his SUV and drove it down to the local Habitat For Humanity. They were glad to get it. They also make house calls, from what I hear.

Not sure if any of these charities want plants, though. Might be more trouble for them than it's worth. Probably the advice you got above is good: just put it in your front yard with a sign saying, "Free to Good Home."

Use your time wisely. Try to minimize the situations where you have to be the one waiting for other people. Five years from now, will you really care if you sold something or gave it away?

If you’re having another garage sale, advertise that there’ll be many free items. Set them to one side. If something isn’t selling, move it to the free zone.

How much were you asking for the plant stand. It would have been easy to spray paint.

Th price must of been right or she never would have shown up. Considering that, a can of black spray paint would have changed the color of the stand and a coat of spray paint, her choice of color would have taken care of the pot. Easy fixes for anyone. I've done it.

I just had a prospective buyer back out on this potted ivy after she rescheduled three times. All I can say is - at least she let me know and said to go ahead and sell it if I had any other interested people.

Okay... the next person interested in the ivy lived close by. She just left without buying because she thought the stand was included. She was only buying the plant to get the stand. I did NOT say in my ad the stand was included. Why would anyone assume that?
