And what's the best advice you ever got from your parents?

Didn't want to hijack Ina's thread about a question to ask your parents...

The best advice I ever got was from my father. When I was out of school and ready to leave home, he told me to never, ever pay more for a mortgage payment or rent than I made in one week. I never did and never had a problem paying the mortgage payment or the rent. Thanks, Daddy!

Nothing springs to mind. If my parents gave me advice I usually did the opposite!:D

I don't remember ever having a serious discussion about anything with my parents.

I hate to say it, given my storybook upbringing, but I'm not sure that I ever had serious advice given to me by them either.

My Dad died when I was 12, so I don't have many memories of fatherly advice. I'm sure there had to be something, some time, and maybe I absorbed it, but nothing specific comes to mind. My Mom passed when I was 22, but by then I had been bumming around the country for several years on my own, and there too I don't recall any advice given.

We had a wonderful family while it lasted but it was never a Leave It To Beaver-type with sage advice and life-lessons handed out every half-hour.

The strange thing is that when your parents tried to advise you..I would huff and puff and totally disregard their advice..Then found myself saying exactly the same words to my children..:D

LOL Twixie. There's that moment when you hear yourself and it occurs to you that "I've become my mother!!!" I wonder if the same deja vu kind of thing happens to guys when they become dads...

Only the old Yiddish maxim - "May you have children like yourself".

The Jews have some good sayings...one that particularly applies to me is:''Beware what you see with your eyes, for it will enter your heart''

And it's true, if I see something horrible on TV..I can't stop thinking about it for days...

The worst thing my kids could say to me is, "You sound just like Grandma!"
