Annoying ads

Is there any way to get a particularly annoying ad from pestering you constantly while on this forum? The ad isn't "offensive," it's just very persistent. I once bought a t-shirt with a picture of Kermit, and since then have been receiving ads shoving t-shirts with animal pictures in my face.

Also, some of the ads that keep appearing in this forum have the same look and style as the posts. So I start reading them, only to realize that I've been "tricked" into reading their advertising.

I think I have a pop-up blocker in place, not sure. I'd rather not start adding any, as they can cause problems of their own. I really just want to get rid of those t-shirts with dogs' faces on them, which is getting more and more annoying.

Makes me wonder; do these advertisers think that just because you once bought one item of a particular kind, you are a big collector of that item and want to be forever tempted to buy more of them? Has the opposite effect on me.

Sometimes you don't even have to buy the item; just Googling it is enough!

Install Ghostery in your browser. For what it's worth, back years ago when I had adblock (plus) there was a blurp on the net about 'Adblock' allowing ads that paid a fee. Don't know.

I'm using my computer, Windows 10, and my browser is Firefox. I don't get on this site on my phone, so I have no idea if the problem also exists there.

I did find a way to disable ads based on interest in something, on the Firefox site. So far, it seems to be working.

Mrs. Robinson, I'd better put a monitor on my thinking as well! 😁

Sunny you can go into your Google account and go to ad preferences. I'm not sure but there may be a way there, to stop them.

Yes, that's what I did, to change the ad preferences from "items of interest," or some such designation, to "off.". No more doggie t-shirt ads have appeared since then. (Fingers crossed!)
