Another Bogus "Fishing Scam" Put To Rest About the IRS Targeting Conservatives

First the Benghazi scandal bit the dust after Hillary Clinton testified, and then the Department of Justice released their report that found no targeting of conservatives and no criminal wrongdoing at the IRS.

In his letter to Congress, Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzikwrote, “We found no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt, or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution. Based on the evidence developed in this investigation and the recommendation of experienced career prosecutors and supervising attorneys at the Department, we are closing our investigation and will not seek any criminal charges.”

Democratic Ways And Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin delivered the blunt truth that Republicans wasted 20 million taxpayer dollars on an empty conspiracy theory, “I was one of the first Members of Congress to call for Ms. Lerner’s resignation in 2013 in response to her mismanagement and poor judgement.

Since May of 2013, the IRS has spent $20 million and provided to Congress more than one million pages of documents related to this investigation.”

The bogus Republican investigations are dropping like flies. Of course, Republicans still refuse to see reality. They are still clinging on to the belief that the IRS was out to get them.

The IRS scandal was one of the fishing expeditions of Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). Issa was never able to produce any evidence to back his claims that President Obama was behind the IRS scandal, but he did manage to humiliate himself by releasing a report that proved that he had nothing.

The IRS scandal was supposed to bring down President Obama. The Benghazi scandal was supposed to be the end of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Instead, both Democrats are stronger than ever, and it is Republicans who are collapsing under the weight of their dysfunction.

Similar things happening over here SeaBreeze. Tony Abbott's government spent vast sums establishing a Royal Commission into a program by the previous government to subsidise ceiling insulation as a stimulus after the GFC. Unfortunately some installers cut corners wrt training of their young workers and four people died from electrocution when they stapled live cables and in other cases the ceilings caught fire. In the end, all of the work had to be inspected for safety and some of it had to be pulled out again. There had been a number of serious enquiries before the Royal Commission and nothing new came of it except that a former Prime Minister was summonsed and grilled.

Then another RC was called to examine corruption in the union movement. This one was even more political although corruption was certainly a problem. This one summonsed another Labor ex PM, Julia Gillard, and grilled her for a day and a half about something that happened before she entered parliament, and which had also been the subject of a number of investigations, none of which established any wrong doing on her part as a young lawyer. They also called the Labor Party Parliamentary leader (a potential future PM) and grilled him about his time as a union leader.

What smells about the second RC is that the Commissioner, a senior judge, is not seen as impartial. While the RC was/is unfinished he agreed to speak at a Liberal Party fundraiser, completely destroying any pretence at impartiality. When this news leaked out, he withdrew and pretended that he didn't know that it was a fundraiser. His emails tell a different story but he's pleading ignorance of computers.

There is corruption at the highest level in some unions and the other side of that equation is the compliance of big business. However, the RC was restrained from going down that line of questioning by its frame of reference. All this points IMO to a very expensive exercise designed to throw mud at a political opponent. A covert police investigation would have been more fruitful because it could lead to actual charges being brought. Royal Commissions are powerful tools for establishing facts but cannot press criminal charges. In the end all they can do is publish a report and recommend changes.

I can assure you the IRA assassination attempt on Margaret Thatcher in Brighton was definitely an attack on Conservatives

I would imagine that it was an attack on the government of the day. Conservative was just a co-incidence?

Margaret Thatcher was evil. Her death was celebrated in many parts of Scotland and England. Not in good taste, but understandable. She put many labourers out of work including shipbuilders in Scotland like my father in law.

Not surprising. This is the Justice Department Holder built. Thrown in federal bureaucrats not wanting to go after their colleagues this is not a surprise. They did admit that Lerner's 'incompetence' wasn't a crime. Also announced this on a Friday-the hide the news in plain sight end of the week where nobody cares day.

And since no action was taken for defying congressional subpoenas and a was cut another break by another 'official' again no surprise.

Maybe some 'justice' will prevail. Head of IRS may face impeachment.
