Another Peeve I Have

I did the same with a perfectly good and well cared for sideboard when the charity shops said they didn't take 'dark wood''.. the sideboard would have brought them in at least £300 even second hand, it was very good quality.. but if I'd had a £50 composite Ikea unit they would have taken that..

...so out mine went to the end of the drive...

I wrapped it up in cling film in case it rained, and put a ''Free'' sign on it... and a guy knocked the door, couldn't believe it was going for free, and came to check .. he was absolutely delighted.. he said he'd just got a new home with his small children, and little money to furnish... so the charities loss was his gain..

Very nice looking piece! It wouldn't fit on my luggage though!

The few times we've put things out, we've always added a "free" sign... most recently it was a huge artificial Christmas tree (with a LOT of light strings in the box to go with it) and a desk chair in good shape. Both times they were gone within an hour. I've never stopped to pick up things that other people had out, but when I see it by the curb and it's not marked, I assume it's free or sitting there for trash pickup.

For what it's worth, Deb, that lady was foolish to sit something out she sold on Marketplace at a place where people usually put freebies.

I wondered myself how she knew I wasn't the Marketplace customer, but then she may have known that person. It's a small community.

People around here would take that and chalk paint it. I think it's a travesty to cover beautiful wood with paint. I let a sale go because the woman that came to get this Federal style dresser mentioned she was going to paint it. I told her if she did that, no sale. People these days don't want dark wood furniture.

I understand what you mean..about the chalk paint, everyone does it here too.. .. but in reality..if someone buys something from us, we can't dictate it's use...

Free Free Free. I don't think it's annoying at all. We don't have it as much in California I think. But watching Freakinfrugal dumpster diving channel on YouTube, it's more prevalent in their area, New Jersy. If it's something someone can use, it's a good thing.

I had to get rid of a lovely Night-N-Day lounge, it was too heavy to carry. The neighbour across the road said he would buy it from me for $100.00, I agreed and helped him carry it over to his place. The next day a large truck arrived to take all his furniture. I didn't know he was moving to Western Australia. That was the last I saw of him; he left without owing me the money. Some people are just no damn good.
