Another school shooting,

Here we go again. This is happening too regularly! Anybody notice these mass shootings are not happening in inner city schools with mostly "minorities" in attendance?
MDS,

This kind of thing has been happening so often that people just seem to tune these incidents out these days. The fact that they are not happening at inner city schools is pretty obvious at this point. Those areas, including mine, where guns are such a big part of the culture are where the vast, vast majority of these shootings are taking place.

This country needs to get serious about gun control.

A student was interviewed on a late-night news report. He said the student was constantly bullied. (much like the Columbine shooters).
I can say from personal experience, school administrators do absolutely nothing about bullying. When I told the principal & teachers, they told me "You are old enough to fight your own battles." When I did that, I was suspended for fighting in school.
Not saying that there was anything forgivable about this incident, but when I saw the pictures of the students who were killed they were all very attractive. I can only imagine the student who killed the others felt very inferior and was lashing out. We all went to schools where there were "popular" students, "jocks", and then the "outcasts".

The shooter was most likely an outcast, bullied by the more popular students. The tragedy of this is that the father bought the weapon a few days ago and his son got his hands on it.

Not exonerating the shooter, but high school kids can be very cruel.

I noticed that, too. The shooter seemed to have targeted the beautiful people. We shall see if that's the case or if they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is going to be an interesting case. The parents were in a meeting at the school earlier in the day, evidently to talk about junior's behavioral problems. The father bought the gun on a Black Friday sale just a few days ago. If he didn't lock it up or gave permission for jr. to use it, he needs to go to prison for accessory to murder. It's time parents were held accountable for their irresponsible behavior when it comes to their children getting access to their firearms, and that could be why the parents aren't cooperating with the investigation.

My cruel classmates were very fortunate that I despised violence even more than I despised them.

His parents were there that morning for a meeting about his behavior. I guess when they boy found out he was in deep poop he said screw it. So when things didn't go his way he's a victim boo hoo.

I read a bit about the parents and they're not exactly fine, upstanding people. Unsavory is probably a more apt descriptor. The father was convicted of passing a bad check and the mother, well, her social media posts say it all. They should both go to prison for life. They're responsible for raising a monster and providing him with a firearm.

It doesn't happen in Australia so teachers are not faced with that decision.
Another fantasy example of "Mine's better than yours....it doesn't happen here.
Since 1991, Australia has experienced six school shootings. Two of these shootings, La Trobe University and Monash University, had one and two deaths respectively. The other four shootings did not have any deaths. The most recent school shooting in Australia was at Modbury High School in Adelaide on May 7, 2012, which resulted in no deaths and no injuries.

The school shootings are indeed terrible, not to trying to diminish the tragedy.

What I don't understand is that the City of Chicago alone has just surpassed 1000 homicides so far in 2021, 216 of those victims have been children under the age of 17. I'm sure somewhat similar numbers have occurred in many U.S. cities - Detroit, Philadelphia, New York, L.A., etc.

There is little if any mention of this ongoing carnage. They are faceless statistics. We have come to expect it. It seems not so important that a young life has been snuffed out, more important where and how it occurred.

HarryHawk this post is not directed towards you. I am just using it to make a point and maybe answer your question to some extent. Many probably already know this but I am sure that there are some who don't. After all this is just my opinion. To me it all boils down to money. For various reasons one news story will make more money than the other. Here is an example of what I referring to. If I open an online news source and there is one story about the local Azalea Festival and another about a school shooting. I would probably be more prone to open the one about the school shooting first. By accessing the page I am added to the list of page visits for that page.

It just happens that along with the original story on the page I opened there will be a lot of added information that I may or may not be interested in. In other words adds. It does not matter if I am interested in it or not. I am exposed to it. Commercial an political interests will pay money to get access to the statistics concerning the particular page. These statistics may be on the amount of times that page was visited, what geographical region it was visited from, the time of day etc. The more the page is visited the more money that can be charged for adds on that page.

My point is that news about death and destruction makes more money than the local Azalea Festival. This makes it possible for the news stories about death and destruction to be manipulated and twisted to create news that is then squeezed for every cent that can be derived from it. It does not matter to the news source if the news is true or not. What matters is how many times that page was visited. I must add that I use the word news loosely.

The parents have been charged...

The parents of the 15-year-old charged in this week's deadly shooting at Michigan's Oxford High School have been charged with four counts each of homicide involuntary manslaughter.

It's about time we started holding the parents responsible when their children use their firearms to murder. The parents, in this case, should get more time than their son (IMO).

Laws have been passed in many states that hold parents responsible if a minor gains access to a firearm & someone is injured or killed as a result. But usually, in such cases, the parents are not prosecuted. It's about time that changes.
I have argued with many ignorant gun owners on forums (and in my own family) who leave guns lying around the house or "hidden so well, my child will never find it."
Adam Lanza could not legally purchase firearms or ammunition, so his brain-dead mother, knowing about her son's mental illness & being in denial about it, bought him several firearms.
Or, "My child is smarter than yours, I told him not to touch guns & he always obeys me."
"I taught my kids about gun safety, so I don't have to lock my guns up."
"I take my kids hunting; they know what a gun can do."

Yeah, geniuses, what about your kids friends who visit & find your gun....can you vouch for their maturity, too?

I got picked on when I was young. I was chubby and felt very unattractive because I wore glasses too. Although, technically I wasn't bullied, that's no reason to go on a shooting spree. Well back in my day, young people "opened a can of whoop ass" to settle things, we did not get guns and shoot our peers!

I was just saying to my o/h that, back in the day, students settled things with their fists .. not with knives and guns. It's extremely worrisome that weapons are used these days, with the intent of killing.

Just from seeing that first shot of them on a video conference, they didn't look like the brightest bulbs on the tree and "trash" did come to mind, so I'm not surprised to read this. They must've known their son had mental issues, so why buy a gun and leave it where it was easily accessible. Yes, I'm glad they were charged, I hope they get convicted and receive the appropriate sentences.

BTW...I did notice that those were some good looking young people. It is so sad and tragic that their bright futures were cut short. Praying for their families!

Hearing now that gun was in his backpack when he had the meeting with the parents and school officials. The fact that he did not target adults to me indicates he had issues with his direct peers and not authority although that was the final trigger.

Hope this time it does.

The FBI and US Marshals are now searching for the parents. Their attorney cannot reach them by phone or text to turn themselves in by 4PM for arraignment.

Where the heck do they think they will be able to run and hide too?

One of the boys in the picture tried to disarm him but got killed for doing what he thought was right.

Maybe the parents are going to the woods & committing harry carry. Like the kid that killed his fiance out in Yellowstone.

When I was in school in the 40s & 50s we carried guns inside to work on them in the shop. NO one ever killed another kid or person. If there was a problem we settled it with our fists. Then we were back friends in 15 minutes.

Same here in Indiana. This past week two-woman & a baby got killed because the judge let the guys out with ankle bracelets.
they had beat up their wives & even shot a couple of other people.

When their bail was set at $250,000.00. The $%^* judge thought that was too high. So he lowered it to $250.00 but also they had to go back on ankle bracelets. Well, long story short. All three of the guys cut off their ankle bracelets, went & killed their wives. the other one the elevator didn't go to the top from his looks on the news killed his girlfriend's, 4-month-old baby.

He told the police he didn't want to pay child support for 20+ years.
