Another Shooting

Well they've taken the video down......It showed him driving up to front of mall, got out of his car and started shooting.....the video was taken from a distance, maybe 100 feet or so.....

I am tired of it and long have been, however stopping the NRA and their support of guns rights politicians probably won't change much.

Half or more, probably more, Americans believe in strong gun rights. I think it is for a couple of reasons.

Some honestly believe we are safer with easy access to guns, you have seen that argument here. I don't agree, I think having a gun in the house increases rather than decreases your risks. However I have had trouble finding good research to support that opinion. Its not easy to determine the number of people who have saved themselves or others with guns...

And some believe danger or not its just an important right. Some believe it will protect from government evils or take over of our rights. I don't, but its hard to convince those who do otherwise.

Add to that the difficulty in getting the legal and/or constitutional changes in place to change the laws its just not going to happen, not any time soon anyway.

That leaves us with trying to figure out how to reduce gun violence without changing the gun laws much. I don't know how, but its where we are.

Six people were shot, including a 17-year old who has since died, at a large party in Chico, California overnight, according to local police.
At around 3:26 AM on Saturday, Chico Police patrol officers were dispatched to an address of a large party in progress, according to a media briefing by the police department. Officers found six individuals between the ages of 17 and 21 had been shot.
The victims included the 17-year-old girl who died; a 21-year-old man who was admitted into an area hospital and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries; a 20-year-old man who has been discharged from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries; a 19-year-old man who was admitted into an area hospital and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries; an 18-year-old man who was discharged from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries; and another 17-year-old girl who was admitted into an area hospital and is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
 
When I was a child, no thought ever crossed my mind about being shot dead in school. Nope, back then we practiced duck-and-cover drills in the thought that the Soviets might come to nuke us. Today, “active shooter” drills have replaced this. The unthinkable has become all too commonplace, and gun violence is the leading cause of child death.

There’s a certain amount of fatalism required for living in contemporary America where you realize that you are never completely safe anywhere, and might perhaps be gunned down as you shop, view a movie, or even attend a house of worship. That’s assuming of course that you aren’t mowed down by speeders on the roadway! Pray that you’re not in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I kinda miss the days when I was only afraid of the Soviets rather than domestic terrorists and garden-variety gun nuts…

As to the Texas police briefing, even though the shootings may have happened in their districts, I don't know why Texas politicians had to line up and give "our hearts and prayers go out to...." speeches at a police briefing. They really didn't have to leave their offices, drive down to the police station and get on camera to issue their condolences.
 
There's a dash cam video out showing the killer pull his car up and started shooting immediately like he spotted his target/s or something. Either he couldn't wait or something else going on?

Also tattoos spotted on his hand which could indicate there are others which might yield some more information.

You are exactly right,@fuzzybuddy , I have been trying to find a video of that briefing....it was beyond exasperating....they were bragging about how many lives were saved and announcing a prayer meeting down at the Baptist church rather than info on the shooting.
