This isn't an AIDS or Ebola type virus that wipes out families. Most who die from COVID-19 do not have dependent children.
The nurse who had cancer had four children. I believe she was a single mother. I think there is a go fund me page for her children. Not saying you are wrong, can not trust my memory, but I think this is true.I agree with @StarSong. A few younger people, or middle aged people have died, but so far not two parents of children. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.
I have no ideal. I have trouble believing that a 100,000 to a million people will die in the US. But I wish I knew more of the circumstances of the older people who have died. People in nursing homes, people in multi generational homes are more prone to catching it.I'm not suggesting it won't ever happen that both parents of dependent children will die from this virus, just that it isn't likely to happen in overwhelming numbers.
The concentration seems to be in the younger age groups. Which is what is being seen elsewhere, so the Chinese have either not been truthful or it effects us differently. I don’t think we will hear much about children until it’s over.Of the Corona patients here in Tennessee, there are :
18.....age 0 - 10
96.....age 11 - 20
462.....age21 - 30
463.....age 21 - 30
286.....age 31 - 40
299.....age 41 - 50
280.....age 51 - 60
212.....age 61 - 70
120.....age 71 - 80
50......age 80+
There have been 13 fatalities and 158 hospitalized
Data as of Monday (March 30), Tennessee has 1,834 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. That's about the same number of cases as Indiana has, and in the top 15 on the list of states with the most U.S. coronavirus cases.
I've found no news stories out of my state about kids having been left orphaned by the virus. For comparison, several kids were left orphaned by the recent tornado here in Nashville.

I have friends in their 50’s who have children as young as 5. My daughter, who basically has custody of her granddaughter, who is 2, is in her late 40’s. CNN gives the death totals but does not give a breakdown of the ages of those that died. We just don’t know.Aneeda, most people in that younger demographic seem to survive the illness, though I'm sure it's no picnic. I think your concern is kind, but misplaced. Not too many 80-year-olds leave young children behind.
Although... some of the elderly might be caregivers of young children while the kids' parents are at work. I wonder what will happen in those circumstances, if the elderly grandparents don't survive the illness?
Was reported on CNN. The reason given was to not expose the sickest cancer patients to the virus.@Aneeda72: "I forget what state or city, but in one place cancer patients have been “rated” and those at a level 6 have had their treatments suspended."
Nope. Giving information like that, which I could not find anywhere, BTW, without a link to it's source is very irresponsible. It's very possible this is under discussion, but to say it has already been implemented without being sure is hysteria talk. Unless you can document this, get a grip. Thank you.
Chris Cuomo of CNN has the virus. I really like him, and hope he recovers.
Not to sound too clinical about this, but about 2.8 million people die in the US each year. An increase of 200,000 would be about 7 percent. And it willl be less than that because a) fewer people will die in gunfights and traffic accidents; b) some of those 200,000 would die within the year without COVID-19; and c) 200,000 is an outside estimate. On CNN today it was repeated that a 100000 to 200000 would die in the next two to three weeks. So hard to believe those numbers, and too sad to imagine. How will we bury so great a number? How will families afford it?
I hope some parkland will be taken and a national burial spot be created If this comes to pass. All the victims, whose family agree, can be buried for free. I suppose cremation would be the best way possible. We must never forget this, we must always be prepared from this time forward.
