Why would I use brackets when I can... as you will see here... use nuisance periods instead?

Why is it, that people often use hand gestures when wanting to attach a set of quotation parentheses, into their speech; yet they do not similarly use hand signaled brackets, for indicating inserted brackets or parentheses, when possibly appropriate?
