Any cross stitchers or quilters out there?

I've been making quilts since 2001 but I've cross stitched since the early 1980's. I also crochet but I don't knit. I have to keep busy with my hands :)
The first quilt is a Quilt As you Go quilt and made with scraps leftover from another project.100_1834.jpg100_1957.jpg100_2461.JPG100_2752.JPG100_2804 (3).JPG

Nice work, my mom loved to quilt.
So did my mom. As a matter of fact quilting was done by many of her generation and almost all women in our family for generations past. Sadly, unfortunately, none of the women in my generation nor those who followed now do needlework of any kind. As a matter of fact, no women in my generation even knows how to sew. So much has been lost as a result of the women's movement which wrongly disparaged anything to do with what women of the past traditionally did.

Used to cross stitch & needlepoint, but my vision, my hands shaking, my patience, so can no longer, but I loved doing it. Works displayed here lovely.
My mom had the same issues. It was very hard for her to give up those things she loved so very much. They were often gifts at Christmas to family loved ones. Gone is the day.

There’s nothing about gender that says women have to sew, if there’s no need. We only have so many hours in a day so we do what we choose. If you want to sew, go ahead. Please don’t disparage those of us who don’t want to.

Beautiful work Colleen. You clearly have patience and a good eye.

You too Pam. That’s gorgeous work.

Women do needlework cause they want to.
Women don’t do needlework cause they don’t want to. Women’s Lib has nothing to do with it.

Many people like working with their hands. If you check out sewing, quilting, knitting and cross stitch forums on Reddit, they are very active. There is also a large knit and crochet site.

It's not all gone.

I belonged to an "Arts and Crafts" group in the late 70s. I did so many cross-stitch landscapes. My own and finished the others (munchkins) who had trouble to complete them before our charity sales.

So, sad to say, but I've none left from those years. Same goes for all the quilts. Everything always got bought during our monthly sales.

I remember we'd pool our efforts and made an oversized Wedding Quilt in time for June's brides. It was completed in 3 months and was then raffled.

I did loads of macrame hanging pots for plants. Ceramic painting on cake holders and teapots. Paint thread on tablecloths. Bargello handbags, macrame wall hanging, mostly owls (they were popular). Oh, just remembered, one item I made from scratch was a frog whic to this day sits on the left side of the kitchen sink and holds the metallic scrub sponge. 😂

I'm hoping to join the SWI next month with daughter and get back to doing double hooking floor rugs.

Currently, all my cross-stitch are painless 😆 with this funky Android App!
