Any Public Radio listeners?

Do you listen to public radio?
If so, I'd sure like to chat occasionally.
Thank you.

I listen to NPR only. No other station. Mostly classical music, but some of the talk shows as well.

What shows do you mainly listen to, Jamie?

Aside from "Willies Roadhouse" and "Canada Laughs", NPR is about all that I tune in to. Most of radio today is trash talking political hacks of one persuasion or another, brow-beating the same stuff for hour after hour. Ironically, you have people with an opposing viewpoint than mine who will listen, day after day, hour after hour, to their favorite hack, pushing out the same old propaganda message. At least with NPR you get more of a world view, a variety of topics, and have some idea of what's going on around us besides the same BS that is presented through a narrow lens.

Thanks for responding, Sunny.

Although I'm not a huge classical music fan, I do enjoy some. Music wise, my favorites include Folk Alley, Thistle&Shamrock, International Americana, Putumayo, World Cafe and such. (My early career was as an FM broadcaster. ☺ )

Talk shows include The Splendid Table, Interfaith Voices, Wait-Wait Don't Tell Me, Ted Radio Hour, Way with Words, On the Media, Left-Right and Center, Oxford Debate and even science program that I can catch.

As a rural person who doesn't leave the farm much, these and other programs sure help to keep me connected.

lol - although not a TV watcher, I know the shows because of radio!

The programs also give me thought starters for research and ideas for books to look for at the library.

Your favorite talk shows, please? Because affiliates air different programs, you may know of some different and new to me. It's always fun to learn something!

Thanks, Dave. I'm interested in the programs you mentioned - Willie's/Canada.

Yeah, there's plenty of heartbreak in radio. When I entered the industry, I was a young, altruistic, save the world through fine art music and quality audio programs.
But much of radio is designed to create consumers and so, no holds barred on the BS.

Several years ago, I listened to an interview with one of the most popular a-talk show hosts and he said outright "I will say anything to keep advertisers." In short, anything to make a buck. Very sad. But most radio stations operate similarly.

I've worked/managed every department in radio except sales, although I was a promotion director for a bit. That's what did me in - I felt as though I was prostituting my listeners and my soul.

But with all that said, npr can be treacherous as well. We really need to keep our critical thinking skills sharp! ☺

Do you have a favorite on public radio?

Oh, also Starsong: Please, how the heck do you put those wonderful quotes as a tag on comments? Really appreciate the truth in yours.

In the FAQ section:
How do I set signatures, avatars and profile pictures?
You can set and change your signature, avatar and profile picture in the User Control Panel (providing the administrator has made these options available).
For signatures, click on 'Edit Signature' under the 'Settings and Options' area of the navigation bar within the User CP.
To select an existing or upload a new avatar, click on 'Edit Avatar'.
To upload a profile picture, click on 'Edit Profile Picture' in the 'Your Profile' section.

I hope this helps you, Jaime! And I'm glad you like my signature. :love_heart:

I like NPR AND some of the political talk shows.
I love Splendid Table, Wait Wait, The Organic Gardener from Pennsylvania (?), The Sound, Prairie Home of course. I mostly listen in the car on trips. One show, don't know the name had great stories. One about the German prisoners interned in the Midwest during the war- fascinating.
I wake up to the classical station as my alarm.

My (former) favorite NPR talk shows are mostly gone: Diane Rhem, and Prairie Home Companion. I love Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, especially their Bluff the Listener game. I like All Things Considered, and the news.

Do you get From the Top? It's on here Sundays at 6:00, and features very talented young musicians. Sometimes I listen to the Saturday operas, depending on which one is on that week.
