Anybody know about this "Temu' thing?

There is a website, "Temu", which is supposed to have goods at extremely cheap prices. I kept getting ads for Temu. Some critics, says it's a scam, others claim it's real. I did check out the web site and they had watches for $3.47 (US). The price made me immediately question the site-you get what you pay for! And if it is a scam, why has nobody yanked it ?? This topic was first posed in S.F. by Just Bonee, a while ago. It seems that if this site was an out and out scam, it would have been shut down by now.
have you heard about Temu?
( I have purposely not added a url to Temu).

Just check the "Data Safety" portion of description within the Android App for this company on Google play store. They need permission access to too much personal information.

It'll eventually be investigated just as Tik Tok and other websites which breached privacy policies recently...

I posted a warning a few days ago on my "Christmas of 2023" thread regarding TEMU:

"Always check reviews when buying online...especially in today's world.
...I suggest you be cautious when buying anything sold by TEMU
(returns are impossible, most items don't arrive say reviews from the BBB)"

Yes, their ads keep popping up in my email, and other places. I am also curious about who they are. Lets see

Wiki says...

Temu is an online marketplace based in Boston, Massachusetts and operated by the Irish-based Chinese e-commerce company PDD Holdings.[5][6] With heavy advertising,[7][8] it offers heavily discounted goods[9] which are mostly shipped to consumers directly from China.[10][11] Temu has been involved in lawsuits with competitor companies and has also faced disputes about product quality and copyright infringement.[12][13]
I found a website that goes into quite a lot of detail if your curious. I don't usually need or want what they are selling.

What Is Temu? Read Before You 'Shop Like a Billionaire'

I belong to several FB quilt groups and watch Youtube quilting channels. I have been amazed at how many of these gals are buying from Temu. It always raises red flags for me because you're dealing directly with them (I guess now you can buy through Amazon) and giving them your credit card information. This is China, folks! I haven't seen anything that looks like "quality" products but because it's cheap, women are buying like there's no tomorrow. I think the old saying, "Buyer beware" is appropriate here.

Okay, I ordered from Temu. Yes, my item came from China but it only took 1 week to get to me. Shipping was free. They were in constant contact with me regarding tracking so I knew exactly where my package was at any given time. The item was exactly as shown on the website and arrived in perfect condition.

I don't know if I would order from them again though. After reading scary stories about them, I feel like I just got lucky. However, I've ordered items from Turkey and Bulgaria and not had problems with them either. 🤷‍♀️

TEMU hoped to be the next Amazon, but they've had a lot of trouble filling orders...lots of people not getting their orders and lots getting the wrong order. Their other major problem is replacements and refunds. They just aren't good at it.

No one ever gets my "real" credit card number. My credit card company has what they call a virtual credit card number that I use for on line purchases. Each virtual credit card number is only good for one purchase, so if anyone tried to use that number it would be useless.

I've just read that they gather LOTS of information about you......but then, a lot of these type of sites usually do.
A couple of my lady friends have ordered from them and been quite pleased.

I noticed that same are concerned about the information that Temu gathers.- that it is way too much info. I think that's pretty much a done deal. Even by just reading this thread, your computer/phone is cranking out traceable information. And with a few relatives, up pops your probably DNA. They can also tell you which cell towers you were near on March 13, 2004. The only info left is whether you brushed your teeth this morning.

I ordered something and was quite pleased with the product and shipping time. BUT both of our Outlook e-mail accounts were soon swamped with phony offers of pallets and other items from Temu from strange e-mail addresses.
My theory is that they got IP address from our order and back traced it to our e-mail accounts.
I personally will NEVER do business with them again.

Probably lucky because my wife orders from TEMU & hasn't had any problems with timely receipt or returns. A few times what she ordered didn't show up in the time frame TEMU showed as going to be delivered by. But the items did show up & TEMU issued a $5.00 credit against future orders because of the delay.
No different than Amazon use of a credit card was all the info requested. No negative experiences so far with the issues others have posted about.

I've gotten those odd emails from Temu also. I just keep putting them in junk mail folder and hope it quits eventually.

Oh Mr. Fuzzy, I have a 🦴 to pick with you! I went to check the place out. Free shipping today.... uh oh. Beautiful sweater pops on screen... double uh oh. Asian sizing.... order two sizes up... okay, I can do that. Bottom line, my sweater will be here before the end of the month. :sneaky:

Now... gotta say I would never *ever* give a credit card number to a place like that. I used my junk mailbox.... and I had $16 left on a Visa gift card... my sweater was $13. Went through just fine.... happy camper here, so I'll take that bone back, I guess. :) @fuzzybuddy

I have been buying from it since it began..never had ne iort of problem with it. I'm very careful about online security... but Temu have been very professional... they keep you updated every step of the way with regard to orders and time-lines,. They don't store your payment methods unless you ask them to..

Thus far anything that has come to me that hasn't been up to standard they have refunded without me having to return the item...

They also give you an opportunity to be refunded the difference in price between the cost of the item you pd.. and any reduced price in the next month.. so EG..buy an item today for $5... find it on their website for $2.. temu will reimburse you the difference at a click of a ''price adjustment button''...

Currently there's a lot of rot posted about Temu... I have found them nothing but professional.... however one caveat is that the vast majority not all.. but most things are from Chinese manufacturers and sellers.. so the quality is not always great.. in fact particualrly with clothing and footwear its often very poor and not how it looks online...but again they have no issues with you requesting a return and refund..

I would only ever use Temu on my computer and not on my phone...

Do yourself a favour.. find something of interest on Temu.. then compare the price with the same on Amazon..you'll be amazed at the price difference..

Here's a classic example of price differences... I bought this Iphone case for £1.28 from Temu....

Amazon are selling exactly the same case for...a penny short of £9.00

Another bonus from temu is altho' most things take a week to arrive ..unlike Amazon... if it hasn't arrived within the specified time slot.. Temu automatically add £5 to your account. No questions, no need for anyone to apply for it..they know when it's happened.

I've only had it happen once in the whole year that I've been using them... very pleased to get £5 .. and my item came one day late...
