Suppose someone in your family did something to someone in a power position, like a Doctor, politician or something like that. In turn that person in the power position decided to destroy not only that person, but that person's family and anyone who came into that person's life. That turns anyone that person encounters into something to avoid and isolate because there is a history that anyone who interacts with that person suddenly experiences negative events. That is what I call "hell on earth." Every relationship is heartbreak, wealth becomes poverty, even your children are suddenly experiencing defeat and isolation. What do you think about it, "hell on earth" nothing is ever right in those peoples lives again no matter how hard they work or try to make their lives and their children's lives better.

I do believe that one wrong decision can effect everyone in your life. I also believe that people cannot run away from their past. All negative things in your life will hold you down forever.

My mother was a staunch catholic, and although she believed in heaven ( but in a different way to sitting on clouds and playing harps)...she certainly didn't believe there was a hell with a devil waiting with furnaces for an eternity...she absolutely believed hell existed though but we lived it here on earth as 'life'.

My parents were child-beaters. I broke the cycle of abuse. I will be forever poorer because of my ex-husband. I went through hell and was exiled for a decade from my home due to his crimes against our daughter. But, you know what, living well is the best revenge. I'm poorer, yes. But pfft... he was a tortured soul (for lack of a better word) and I'm happy. He died at 33. I always said he'd die by 30 due to his lifestyle and people pooh-poohed me and said see you can't get rid of a bad penny when he turned 30. I still replied, we'll see and we did. I wasn't exactly off by much. His death enabled me to move back home and I'm doing well. My pensions are less than they would have been if I had never fled state with our daughter so I'm still poorer but she was safe all those years and that's worth so much more than money and material things and, currently, I'm doing better than I ever have before. I like me and that's something nobody can take away.

Short version: life is what you make it. You can let other people make you miserable or you can take control of your own life and love living it no matter what they do. I'm a staunch atheist but I agree with hollydolly's mother in a way. Heaven and hell do exist just not in the literal sense. They're both on this Earth. It depends on what you make of it. Life can be heaven or hell depending on if you deal with problems that come your way but you live for the good or let the bad consume you.

So are you saying negative things from the past stalk and hold people down for the rest of their lives? I think we are supposed to learn from our mistakes and move forward. Things done in the past should not be the control factor in future.

I agree that they are both on this earth (heaven and hell) My heaven seems to always have a rock flying through the door, that is what turns it into hell.

That has happened for years in the West Bank and Gaza. Ask those people what it's like if an uncle or a cousin 'misbehaves' and your house is destroyed.

Also happened during the WWII in Europe with people turning on each other and ratting each other out to the Nazis as well as in post war East Germany with the Stasis being the evil power.

evil walks the earth of course --just take a look in the news etc---------------bombs-torture - beheading'
it would not surprise me if this is our hell as we live now -
I believe in that the soul lives on to its nxt life -reborn if u like , so I truly believe in the after life and our nxt adventure to come ...
dont believe in fires of hell ' but we do pass on to something far better ---

Hell on Earth?
Id say most people who live in North Korea are there already. Even the ones close the Supreme Leader.
there would be a few other countries on the list.
Also being a bedridden disabled waiting each morning for someone to change your diaper.

YES-S-S! Me too. Earth is our hell. Our afterlife is after life and i believe to be our heaven.
It’s nice meeting like minds in these types of things.

My Dad use to say hell is here on earth. There have been many times that I believed that but my question is,what about all the good times we have had on earth? How can that be hell? I find it confusing.
