Anyone else fight the demons

We don't have as far to go, as we've already been
For me it's a never ending battle.

Wrote this back in April 75 when I finally "went
through the window". Partly for therapy... but
mostly to just let it out and try to justify the
guilt over surviving.
Only partly worked.

Just think man. pretty soon we'll be home.
I mean, what've you got? 30 days? Then all
this will just be a bad dream. You'll go
home, see your chick, and pretty soon, all
will be normal again. Oh, there will still
be some bad dreams and memories I guess,
but at least we'll be home. Here man, hold
my hand. It won't be long now. That wound
don't look too serious. What? No, hell no,
of course I won't leave you. We're buddies
man. We've seen it all. Eleven months worth.
Getting shot this way ain't really that
bad. Hell, it's just some sham time at the
rear for you. Hospitals, pretty nurses, the
whole bit. What? Oh, don't worry about me.
You know I'll make it alright. I was born
under a lucky star I guess.

And so it was. The scene when they arrived.
They stood, and watched, and one of them
slowly shook his head. They led him away.
Still protesting about having to leave his
buddy that way. Meanwhile, one of the medics
sadly covered the sightless eye's, of the buddy.

I'm sorry Squatting Dog. That is a heart breaking story. Thank you for sharing it with us. In the photo, which one is you and which one is your buddy? I have never been in a situation like you went through so I can't say I know how you feel. My grandson is getting ready to go into the Air Force and I hope he never has to go through anything like you have. He is a very sensitive guy so I know something like this would really affect him also. Have you ever been in any kind of support group and if so, did it help you at all?

Darlin' I would tell you to get in touch with your local VA hospital. Really, there are so many good meds, it doesn't have to be that way. If the VA can't help a regular hospital might. It can make all the difference if you reach out <<<hugs and purrs>>>

Stupid question maybe so forgive me if it is, but isn't there any kind of support group that might help?

SD, I am so sorry about your buddy. I weep for your pain. I have PTSD, just from a different kind of war. I work with vets also. How I rationalise surviving is to be a voice for others. The pain is always nearby, and the battle continues. We all need to try to help each other. Big hugs. If you need to talk, I would be honoured to listen. You have a right to be alive, and you are not alone.:love_heart:

Oh boy. I got your back, brother.

That piece was incredibly poignant. It made this crusty old Army Captain's eyes all wet. I have PTSD too, but it's not bad. Not like yours.

Hang in there, buddy.
