Special Ed. teachers. The job requires a 'mental gymnastics' which none can
do. We have destroyed a lot of 'special ed kids' as we could not find the key to
their behavior.
It is a magic job (when you find the key on a child), we don't know how to find
the magic key on most of these kid.
They are forever locked in their world of one

I think we would be surprised to know how many people "on the spectrum" are out there performing quite well. They're considered "quirky" or "a little difficult" or "marching to the beat of a different drummer".

We've worked with them or lived next door to them or even dated them. Or they're family members. Some are brilliant.....but a little "strange". Some are incredibly artistic.....but a little "off". Some are musically gifted.....but a little "unsettling". But they live what passes for normal lines. "Normal" is highly overrated, in my opinion.

My granddaughter teaches biology and chemistry on the high school level and general science in the middle school at a private school for autistic students. She has the higher-functioning students but even that varies widely. Some of her students go on to college and do well. Some don't.
