Anyone following the Alex Murdaugh trial in SC ?

My personal opinion is he shot his wife because she was wanting a divorce. Rumored that she inquired of a divorce lawyer & told a good friend. I imagine these are not provable so they haven't been mentioned. I also had heard that she had called a friend & was suspicious that Alex had called her that fateful night & wanted to meet her but at that location. She had called the friend as she was driving there, I think. But, since it was a phone call it can't be proven that is what was said. I think he killed her, but was not expecting that his son would be there & that part was not planned. This is all just my opinion & not part of the court proceedings. No matter what happens I think that his life is screwed, although I'm sure he thinks that he can go back to being a powerful person. But, he can't!

Apprently the father was just as big a rogue, but never caught... the sad thing is that he died just days after Maggie and Paul... so poor Buster has had to suffer so badly losing his mother, brother, grandfather in days.. and his father arrested.. if anyone might need therapy for PTSD that boy probably will
 

This is an interview with Alex 's brothers..one of whom (Randy) works in the same Law firm which sacked Alex... so the dynasty continues..

However in this interview they deny being any kind of powerful family..they would of course.... but at the time of the interview the murder had just occurred and no-one had been arrested.. so I'd love to see an Interview and hear their thoughts now..

I don't think that would be the case. He was a powerful man, lots of money..powerful family.. relatives who are also lawyers, he could easily have afforded a divorce from his wife .. there would have been no child maintenace costs either . .. no need to kill her.. .

My thoughts were that if she would have hired an attorney & thus a forensic accountant to go over the money then all his money shenanigans would have come to light. Granted they did after the murders, but he didn't know that.
 
I've been watching/listening to this trial, and have learned One thing.....If you are moving around with your cell phone, it will track every move you make. Today's testimony seems to be centered around "cell phone" data.

For people who consider money the most important thing in the world, just the alimony payments would be enough motive.
In many states, the husband's alimony is decided by the lifestyle the wife was accustomed to during the marriage.
Example: When Johnny Carson divorced, he had to pay $44,000.00 per month.

yes having worked in Broadcasting and the Media for many years I know personally of people who have had high payments but that's because they could afford it. Maggie to our knowledge knew nothing of Alex' fraud, so wouldn't have known he'd had access to Multi Millions of Dollars over what she knew he earned .... and if that was the case then he could easily have killed Maggie at some other place without Paul being there.

He and Maggie had not applied for divorce and as far as all the witnesses have testified, altho' they had some issues with regard his drug taking, there hadn't been any time where either of them had sought a Divorce.. in fact most said he and Maggie were very close..

yes however it's a little misnomer about the steps.. because it transpires you don't have to physically be walking for the phone to count it as steps ...and also when the phone pinpoints where you are at any one time, a 50 yard diameter is the best it can do.. which means you can be inside our outside of a building.. or at any part of the land in a 50 yard radius
 
One other theory would be that his drug addiction was uncovered therefore his life (to him) was being threatened.
That is very powerful and could have made him lose his mind.

His drug addiction was known to his wife and son for 20 years.. to his other son, to his brothers..and other family members including his father. He's testified that he detoxed sevral times over the years with the help of Maggie and his various family members, but then he would go back on it.. so it wasn't hidden
 
I didn't realize they knew. Guess it would be hard to hide.
I just have such a hard time fathoming how someone could do that to their wife and son!
It is fascinating and horrifying at the same time.
 
It's excrutiating watching this now they've got to the part where he arranged to have someone shoot him.. the lie after lie he told, is starting to make the jury sit up and pay attention now ... however I still am irritated by this Prosecutor.. he's unlikeable, and boring. There's 10 lawyaers in his team.. he needs to give someone else a turn, because he's making Alex Murdough look like a nice and more educated guy than the prosecutor is.. and there lies the danger when the Jury prefers the defendant to the prosecution..
 
I began being very interested in this case and the trial. But for some reason, I lost touch with it and could never get the grip back.

I once read that Maggie was going to leave him- or already had.

I'll just follow HD's posts to keep up, now.

No pressure then... :D:ROFLMAO:... I'm taking a little break from it, I've watched it all afternoon.. good thing there's a time difference here and it doesn't start until 2pm on our network..so I can get all my chores done in the morning.... I've got the last hour of court proceeding recording for today.. and I'll catch up with it later tonight, then there will be no more until next week..

Oh for sure he did... and he got away with so much because he comes across as the nicest guy.. someone who would be your friend.. and people just trusted him..to their detriment
 
Just one more added Titbit... the fraudulent buck clearly hasn't stopped at Alex ( aka Richard Alexander Murdough).. because his son''Buster'' also Richard Alexander.. who sits in the court room every day during the trial... was kicked out of law school on a charge of plagiarism.. *sheesh*

I've not watched the netflix special yet.. I've got all my info from what I've read online, and watching the trial and interviews... but I may look at it over the weekend before the trial resumes on Monday.

I did hear the Court TV anchors the other day say that Netflix had got some point wrong or missed out .. however I'm sure it'll give us enough of the real stuff to let us know who we're dealing with in this court case

I thought one possible motive was that she knew of his crimes and he was afraid she would report him. :unsure: I think I read that she had shared information about his fraud with at least one person...a close friend. (?) What a terrible position his remaining son is in! It seems like he believes his father is innocent, unless he was threatened or bribed to stay quiet.
