Anyone have a SmartTV?

I just got myself one as an early birthday gift for myself. I got it at Best Buy and it's a Samsung. It's still in the box. I still have to get rid of my old tv. Have to have someone lug the old clumsy thing out of here. Anyhow, do any of you have a smarttv and how do you like it? What do you like about it?

We have one and love it! I like that you can press the button on the remote and get Youtube, Netflix, etc without having to fool around with pressing a few buttons on the regular remote. It makes it easy to watch all the Youtube videos - lots of free old docs and films etc.

Our old tv went into out bedroom and the tv we had in our bedroom went into the guest bedroom.

I'm glad you like it. It sounds like it will be a real nice tv for me. I have a tv I won in a raffle that is brand new, too, to put in my bedroon. It is a 40 inch. The new Smarttv I got is a 48 inch tv. I wanted to get a bigger one because of my eyesight. I have a hard time seeing things far away and close up actually. The tv is kind of far from the couch since the living room is on the large side. I am going to get someone out here to put them together for me so I will have modern tvs finally. lol :)

You'll love it. I think ours is 50". Glad I have a geek husband because I wouldn't be able to figure out how to set it up like connecting to the wifi.

I have one, not because I particularly wanted one, but simply because the TV I wanted happened to be a "smart" one.

Total waste of space; I never use the facility. It does nothing my computer or phone doesn't do, except it does it a lot slower!

Each to his own. If you like it, good. To me it's a waste of resources.

I talked to the man at the cable company and he told me I can just connect it to my modem. He said he does that. That is something I didn't know. I am going to get Netflix.

I don't have a smart phone. Maybe some day you will want to use the "smart" feature.

Not a 'Smart TV' but perhaps the next best thing. I have a freesat box, which connects to a satellite dish, gives me over 200 channels including free HD. With one aerial input I can record live TV or pre scheduled. I can pause and rewind live TV. Record a programme whilst watching another recorded programme. With two aerial inputs I can record two programmes simultaneously whilst watching a third live one! My Freesat box also has iPlayer and Youtube. All of this is totally free. No subscriptions! I can connect Amazon, Now TV or any other gizmos into the back of the set.

Don't know why it would do it slower? Ours is the same. Plus it's much nicer to watch something on a big screen than on a computer. Better sound as well. And between Netflix and Amazon Prime we can watch a ton of different choices.

Yes, hook it up to wifi! My sister has a smart tv but says she has no reason to get it hooked up to her wifi. But she's a technophobe.

I don't have wifi but a regular router or modem and the cable man said I can hook it up to that so I hope that will be okay. The smart tv has wifi built into it.

Not sure how it works, but when we got a new router - and faster - hubby had to reprogramme everything including the tv to hook up to our new wifi code.

I'd like to have a smart phone but it's just one bill I can't afford.

Understand. With my current phone instead of buying it via my provider and making payments for 2 years, our research showed it was much cheaper to buy the phone outright and just get a data/text package through my provider. So we shopped around for the cheapest of the model I wanted. I keep my phone for years unless I find a reason to upgrade and I'm happy with this one so have no plans to replace it. I think I've had it over 2 years now.

I'm glad you got a reasonable plan. A friend of mine pays $70. per month for her smart phone service. I think that is a lot.

I'm having the cable company come out to hook the new tvs up to the mini boxes so at that time they will tell me what I need most likely. I haven't made arrangements yet but hope to this week. I can't wait to see the new big screen!!

I've never heard of that service but glad you have found something so good for free yet!!

My plan is 900 minutes a month, unlimited texts, and 1GB of data per month. I pay £20/month. You can convert to dollars but wouldn't be accurate due to fluctuations.

That's the same brand I bought. I hope the speakers aren't chinsy on mine, too.
