Anyone have hypothyroidism?

A couple days ago, a member on here asked me if I'd had my thyroid checked because of some of the symptoms I've been having. The answer was...no, I haven't had bloodwork in a couple years. I have an appointment with my new doctor in November.

Does anyone have hypothyroidism and if you do, what kind of symptoms did you have? I've heard that it takes a long time to get the medication just right. I don't want to take "drugs", but I'm sick of feeling like this. :(

I suffered with depression for 10 miserable years and given so many A/D drugs and my D.O. finally called in for Armour thyroid and depression lifted in 4 days. There are some 66 HypoT symptoms. I will only take desiccated support and MOST allopathic MD's don't offer it. It's an old and tried and true med and they go for the new high priced drugs all the time....sad.

I took Armour thyroid for years and then price went high and now I'm taking NatureThroid and doing fine on 2 grains daily.

We are not numbers, we are Symptoms.

I also take 1 drop of Iosol Iodine daily. Works good for my body.

Best if you can get to integrative MD or naturopath for best help.

I have Meds for hypothyroidism...I asked my Doctor a couple of years ago to check my thyroid....I take 25 MG a day....It was a feeling I didn't like for a long time....
Everyone should get your Thyroid tested...Even though you don't have any symptoms...

I have all the symptoms of iodine deficiency but I'm not taking anything until I get bloodwork done. I have to watch eating things like tuna, shrimp and eggs, which are good iodine sources, because it triggers my Gerd :(

I know docs love those numbers and we are NOT numbers, we are symptoms. So often numbers are just fine in their guidelines but we have symptoms. Talk to your doc about symptoms. A drop of iodine could be a miracle or work with kelp like Keesha does. Many others work with kelp foods.

Docs don't want us to think as there are more issues than the numbers world they live in. j

I understand your complaint about "the numbers" but if I don't get bloodwork done and don't know what my "numbers" are, how can I know if there's a problem or not? I don't believe in just taking supplements, etc. for what "might" be wrong just because I don't want to take drugs.

Not everyone can tolerate supplements like iodine, kelp, or garlic tablets, or fish oil, etc., and I'm one of them.

I don't go to a doctor any more than I have to but I do need to see him once a year for bloodwork and to get my BP Rx refilled.

To stay in the pharma medical world we have to go thru numbers game. I've lived thru many years of this issue so that's where I come from. Just sayin. We are all different, old/young, fat/skinny and these guidelines are so general. The longer I'm living the more I see so much.

I still go for the numbers once a year and still take the thyroid meds I've been taking for years.

There is a company online that sells desiccated thyroid meds and I've often thought about trying their product as it's a pain in the A$$ to go thru the numbers and get scripts etc etc, But pharma gets one hooked. Once hooked we fear leaving their meds.

I'm all for trying NDT (IF I need to go on meds) rather than fatten Big Pharma's wallet. I'll just wait for results and go from there.

I know 10 years ago when I started on BP meds, the doctor told me to cut out salt as much as possible....and I've done that. Maybe that's why (possibly) my thyroid is under active now. Damn doctors...one day something is bad for you, the next day it's good for you :( I have no confidence in the medical world....and I use to be a nurse!!

As I see and I'm 80 and have done a lot of work on thyroid support groups, the good ole time doctors worked with the Natural meds and today's docs out of med schools are working with drug company that helps fund the med schools. Lots of history and MOST don't know this .

Synthroid and levo I guess can help people but I know plenty who finally found a doc to work with desiccated thyroid meds. Armour, NT, Acella etc etc.

I thank my lucky stars that I had a D.O. in my life who knew all the history and he still worked PT into his 90's. He's gone now. Loved that man...put me on Armour --- no labs ever from him.

Have you gotten Nature-Throid prescription lately? I had to go on armour now into 3rd month because nature throid is having production issues.

I am getting hypo again and i feel so depressed when i feel myself like this.

I was prescribed 50 MCG of Levothyroxine Sodium, generic for Synthroid for the condition. I am given blood tests twice a year and the doctor is happy. If he's happy, I'm happy. As for any symptoms, older people have a smorgasbord of symptoms that could be attributed to anything. Iodine is added to salt for your thyroid, but salt is supposedly bad for your blood pressure. B.S. So were eggs bad. You have a minimum daily requirement for salt too.

We have over 50 different hormones in our body. The thyroid is so important. And usually hashimotos a aweful thing to have. I dont have it thank God but a lot of hypo people have hashimotos. There are a host of other symtoms come with having hypothyroidism.
hair falling out, tired, foggy brain, exhausted and falling asleep at anytime ,irregular heartbeat like thumps and skips... ontop of nervousness, poor memory and much more. When my thyroid is optimal I,have NONE of these symtoms. I take porcine made from pig thyroid sometimes referred to dessicated which means dried thyroid or NDT means natural dessicated thyroid. The levo synthroid did nothing for me. Tsh is not the end all test people with thyroid priblems have. T4, t3, reverse t4 and t3 and so much more. And also most people that have this condition have low iron. My iron was within, the range but it was no normal range for me. I started eating oatmeal and within 2 weeks had more energy. Ive do e and had to research because my old doctor did not listen. So, listen to your body. If you are a man it could be different.

Im glad your meds are working well for you. Its common for a lot of people to have multiple of symptoms. Lucky those that have just a few.

Discovered I was suffering from hypothyroidism only recently. However, it was lifelong but was untreated back then. Not going into details 🐱.

Nevertheless, had a major swelling attack back in 2020. Appointment was cancelled due to lockdowns. Did research online to help myself quickly and prevent trip to A&E.

Found that Selenium was lacking in Scotland. Went to B&H, got a bottle of selenium 200ug. Reduced swelling in thyroid, lost 2 stones (28lbs) feel much better and no more crazy choking. It's one tablet daily. As well I suffer from anaemia constantly, add to daily intake with multivitamin with iron.

Haven't been able to have a GP since 2012, don't know why, but I plan to investigate this year.

I agree with your full thyroid panel. Get your free t3, free t4, reversed t3 and reverse t4 labs done. I would be adamant about getting these run. Usually they do tsh, iron and a few more. The free t3 and free t4are very important. The TSH is like the first test and sometimex the only test doctors will do. But the raise the hood on your tests and get a complete and full panel you may have to stick by your requests. I had to change doctors 3 times before i got someone that understood thyroid health. Go look up stop the thyroid madness. That website will tell you just about everything. Its a very comprehensive site of many stories and experiences of thyroid patients and what tests are for and why you should get them. Good luck. I take NDT. Stay away from lab created such as the cheap stuff they want to give you right away. Generic is Levothyroxine is cheap and its all synthetic. At least NDT natural dessicated thyroid is from porcine which is the closet to the human. There is bovine and lots of people ive heard take it and they do well. Read read read. It will make your head spin. But for you to learn and understand about your needs, even as a nurse its essential. Once i figured it out and understood it was so freeing. But it takes a good while for most. You may have an easier learning curve.

Gee, the im replying to a thread from Years ago.😆
Thanks for this thread.
My freeT3 is one number from being out of range...I've gained weight, I'm sluggish, all the symptoms you read about.
The doctor will not treat it...he says 'as long as my TSH is normal..blah blah blah.
My T4 is on the low end also.

Instead he wants to treat me w/anti-depressants and phetermine (phen-phen). I declined.
Long story short, I'm planning on going to see a naturopathic doctor as soon as I save up the $$. My insurance won't cover it.

All I want is some Cytomel.
What is NDT? natural dissected thyroid?NDT natural dessicated thyroid is from porcine which is the closet to the human.

NDT natural dessicated thyroid is from porcine which is the closet to the human. You may need to read my post again. It talks about bovine as well.

That's the Armour, right?
Does it treat low T3 & T4?
Armour is NDT made from a different company. I think a pharmaceutical company bought the Armour thyroid brand. I take nature-throid. Notice the spelling for this specific brand. And yes all NDT is good for t3 t4. Very pricey thats why many choose a different brand. After pharmaceutical bought it a few years back it changed and the price went up. Go find the stop the madness thyroid. You will find most if not all of your answers to your questions there. Good luck

I realize this is an older thread but thought I’d renew it. Hypothyroidism affects women far more than men and is especially common in seniors .

For those who wish to treat this common health issue naturally here is a great link with the top 5 natural products

I’ve personally ordered thyrogard and will add a review of how it is working for me. My thyroid has been sluggish for years and I wish I’d taken the meds offered by my physician but didn’t. I’m now having a real difficult time with fatigue, brain fog and difficulty losing weight but am determined to nip this in the butt.
