Anyone have nerve damage?

Specifically in their hands, since that is where most of my pain is, my right, index-finger knuckle. I would like to ask some questions of you since I need to make a doc appt. this a.m.

Thanks, Denise

Because docs can't or won't do anything for my aches and pains from overuse injury among others, it gets on my nerves. Does that count?

it was overuse by the way, and trying to keep up with 20 year olds in a warehouse job when I was almost 60. LOL, it's physical pain I'm not handling so well, but I know emotional/mental can be as painful. I had a neuro stick some pins in me to find my problem and in doing so I felt like attacking him with his stinking, little needle thingy. Now I'm afraid to ever let anyone examine me, which of course, isn't going to help. I think probably "just living with it" is the answer.

Hi Denise.. a few years ago I was so achy.. so tired.. I couldn`t work out how I was going to get up the stairs... It was a struggle.. well after doc did a full blood test he sent for me and asked me if I had any one in my family with iron overload.. I said to him what is that? he said well its heriditery and its called Haemochromotosis.. the proper name for an over abundance of iron in your system.. celtic curse is another name for it lol. I got that alright .. Irish on both sides.. also Cornish and English so how could I escape it lol.. any way it affected my legs and still these days they are so tired and pain so much the doc told me after having nerve conduction test that I have peripheral neuropathy.. which is nerve damage to the nerves behind both my knees... not much can be done with it and it can`t be repaired just live with it.. try to find ways to stop the pain.. well its hard as lots of drugs are not compatible with iron , so its one of those things.. if you have it in your fingers doc can probably give you drugs that make the pain bearable... so please go to doc and get some treatment.. I`d hate any one to ever go through the pain I have and no doubt many do .. on here.. its just the iron problem makes things 100 times worse.. and the way I have to get the iron down is go to blood bank and have 700ml taken out each 3 months to get the ferriton levels down.. hopefully low enough to carry me the rest of my life as blood taking stops when your 70 so then I`ll have to really stop eating haem iron.. just eat non haem iron foods.. which are ok just not nourishing enough .. do lets know what you do with yours and what treatments you get.. look after yourself ..

My daughter worked for coles on register
They didn't swap her around for left hand to right hand
She developed pain in her shoulder. After 12 months they sacked her Reason ??......Duty of care
Can't get another job as soon as she mentions injury so on dissability pension
Coles did settle for small amount of $$$$$$'s
She gets symptoms of electric shocks in shoulder and sometimes feels like cold water running through veins
She does take nerve tablets (nerve in shoulder)

I will have to go if it gets worse Rainee, but my, little pain isn't like what you have. I am so sorry you suffer with that:( I don't think I have any iron difficiencie either, but again, an exam. I admit to be afraid of those needles. I am sure I asked him at the time, if they couldn't do an exray to see the prob. I'm sure he said those things don't show up that way or something. He actually seemed mean to me, and I've never in my life felt that way about a doc. He was impatient with me squirming, and this is after he himself told me some patients cannot bare the pain of the probing. Well duhhhhhhhh!! That time I should have taken my dainty mother's advice and grabbed him by his "Party Pack" and said "we aren't going to hurt each other are we"

The electrical shocks I recognize. I have it in right hand, left knee (which used to burn if I touched the area, or wasn't careful pulling on my jeans etc.) and both arms (no burning). It's all about the nerves, and I've always thought a chiro could do me good but I am not covered for one on my ins. I can see a DO, Doc of Osteo something. Sorry about your girl but I am glad she is getting some disability for that.

Chiro just might be a good answer other than that have you ever hit your funny bone and found that your hand had a burning feeling or other weird feeling but the problem was at the elbow.
When disc and joints deteriorate the put stress on the nerves that travel through them. A chiro might be able to track down what and where the nerves are being molested and knowing that you can use cold to cut down on the inflammation temporary. Rebuild your cartilage one way is gelatin which is cartilage and of course the other co factors needed.
Good luck and heal fast

Thanks Doug, I think the hand is in the hand itself because I folding tons of these tiny, thick-cardboard shipping boxes everyday for 3 or 4 months. You had to fold and glue them. Then stuff them with something twice the size:( of the dang box (exaggerate) but had to save pennies right?

I think the arm stuff could be at least partly from my back but here I am playing doctor again;) Thank you for the info, I appreciate it much:)

Hmmm... re: nerve pain...
The subject is so deep that it takes a lot of questions to determine just what that means. Having gone through a journey into this over the past three years, I don't believe there is any easy answer, without getting into the fine points of what kind of pain, and where. Arthritis is usually in the joints, like sandpaper grinding away. Tendon pain is different, and more to the commonly named "nerve" pain.
The tendons are surrounded by tiny nerves, which become inflamed. Carpal Tunnel is the most common complaint, where the nerves in the hand go through a small "tunnel". This can often be eliminated or improved by cutting the blockage. I was diagnosed with this, and went through the operation $12K. Despite having the pre=operative tests for diagnosis, it was wrong. The operation left no improvement. After consulting with a neuropathic doctor, I questioned whether additional visits and tests... many$$$ would be beneficial, and found no guarantees. Further reading on this reinforced my thinkiing... My actual problem is Peripheral Polyneuropathy... essentially a loss of feeling in the hand... fingers. A continuous feeling of wearing a glove, and pins and needles.

In the beginning there was much pain, especially at night, leading to many sleepless nights and a degree of misery. Neurontin "brand" is gabapenten... generic" helped but not much.... Eventually, the pain either went away, or lessened, or i got used to the problem, and now have no problem dealing with it.. at all.

Much is written on this subject. I spent many, many hours on different websites, just to find that diagnosis and treatment of actual "nerve" damage is not simple or well understood. The combination of Arthritis and nerve problems... extremely complex.

There are a number of UTube videos covering exercise therapy, specifically for hand and arm nerve problems.
