Been thinking about trying one. ....... Question, what do ya do with one , once it's done ?

Is there such a thing as a puzzle mat, so the table isn't tied up as ya work on it ?

There are puzzle tables. They are lazy susan types and fit on top of your regular table so you can move it to another area when you need to use the regular table. I'm sure there are others as well. A friend of mine cuts thick cardboard and uses that for his puzzles.

I do them all the time and currently have about thirty stacked in a closet -- and I only keep certain ones!

I have a spare room with a big long table in it, so I don't have to worry about getting it out of the way by dinner time. My parents had a beautiful inlaid game table in a corner of the living room for their puzzles. They watched TV at the same time and I have the radio in my spare room to listen to. I don't like to work puzzles without that extra addition of something to do with my brain while my fingers do the puzzle.

I used to do thousand piece puzzles, but these days I stick to 500 or 300 piece puzzles with extra large pieces. They're easier on the eyes and not as tedious in the beginning when sorting.

My recommendation for a starter would be large piece 300 piece puzzle. It should take about three hours total so it would be possible to finish it in one day if you want to get it off the table for some reason. I usually only do about an hour per day at a time when I know NPR has something interesting going on.

What to do when you're done? Sit back and admire your work for a minute, then tear it up and put it back in the box. Write the date on the box and put it away until next year when you feel like doing it again. I have some puzzles with a dozen or more dates on the side.

Charles Wysocki is an excellent puzzle artist. I save all of his because his painting have lots of detail. Don't buy one that only has a few colors, or something like field of sunflowers. No point torturing yourself. If you really love your finished puzzle you can frame it and hang it on the wall.

Each morning I open the NY Times Games app on my phone. I do the following puzzles: Crossword Mini, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, Connections, Strands and Wordle. Of the six Connections is the one that I have the worst scores with. I just like a quiet routine while I have my coffee in the morning.

I love jigsaw puzzles. They got me through covid. Like Della I also keep them and do them again in a year or a few years. Some of my favorites are decades old. As a matter of fact I think I'll pull one out and start it. :)

It's the same with Lego. I bought my grandson a Lego puzzle of a Pirate ship with an island in the background and a shark in the water.
He was only about 11 at the time and had a bit of difficulty assembling it, so I stepped in to help. When it was almost finished, I accidently bumped the table and most of it fell apart. Well, did he throw a tantrum. I said we can start again and use glue to stick it together, well that started another tantrum with him yelling that is not what should happen. We eventually got it all together with me vowing to never do another one again.

i do them online at puzzlegarage.com hit the multiplayer tab at the top and pick a level. i usually go with the 384 piece puzzle. you do them with other people and u earn points. i am kinda addicted to it.

Yes I like doing jigsaws. I've actually done that one Della posted. I do busy picture ones like that.
I always do 1000 piece ones, just bit at a time, takes 2 or 3 weeks to complete. I have it on a board on table under back verandah

I used to keep them afterwards but when I moved house there were 20 or so boxes gathering dust in the shed.

What I do now is take a photo of completed puzzle, keep it in an album, taking up no space - and give the jigsaw to 2nd hand shop so someone else can enjoy it.

Not me so much as the Mrs.. We have one of these that generally lives on one end of the gigantic island in our kitchen, or under the bed when not in use.

Fortunately, in our over-55 community there is a puzzle underground that meets in dark and secluded places to swap puzzle boxes from underneath their trench coats. Also, our club house has a pretty large, take one - leave one collection. Then there's the giant animal head puzzle, still sitting, assembled, on the dining room table because "I think I might want to frame that one"....

We love jigsaw puzzles. We mainly get them from charity shops and when completed either keep them for a while or donate them to charity.
We've just completed a puzzle of the London underground and we also have one of The New York rail network. These puzzles were gifts, so we keep them.

Cats love to lounge on jigsaw puzzles (or anything else that demands your attention) which is why I stopped trying to do them years ago. Now I do Wordle, the free LA Times crossword and others on my phone.
