Silver Sneakers is new to us and we started it last week. It is done in conjunction with both Physical Therapy and meditation.

It really is a wonderful, yet gentle work out and the aerobic benefits are fantastic.

It can be done at home, work or facilities such as our Senior Assisted Living place. Something to look into. All ages benefit.

Yes, I have heard of " Silver Sneakers". Our community center has the program.

What Is the SilverSneakers Program?

Last updated March 3, 2025
Are you looking for a senior fitness program? If you have a Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan, your health insurance may include a free fitness membership for adults 65+ called SilverSneakers. A SilverSneakers membership includes access to roughly 14,000 recreation centers, churches, senior communities, and other neighborhood locations across the nation. You’ll get access to fitness equipment, social events, a variety of exercise classes, including boot camp, circuit training, strength and balance, tai chi, yoga, water aerobics, and Zumba, plus access to amenities like swimming pools, tennis courts, and walking tracks if available at certain locations. Sounds pretty good, right? Here’s what else you may want to know about the program.

Does Original Medicare cover SilverSneakers?

Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, does not cover this benefit. If you’re

considering a Medicare plan with SilverSneakers coverage, including Medicare Advantage (Part C) or Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans, contact a Medicare.org licensed sales agent at 1-877-388-0596 – TTY 711 for a quote.

Silver Sneakers membership used to be a benefit of my Medicare Advantage plan.

I never went to the local gyms that accepted it but I did order a couple of free exercise kits and watched several short videos that were helpful.

Anything that gets us up on our feet and moving is a good thing!

We have Silver Sneakers membership as part of our Devoted Health Advantage plan, and it includes a membership to our local fitness center here in Huntsville. It is an important part of our fitness program, and we try to go to the fitness center around 3 days per week, depending on our schedule and also on the weather.
They have exercise programs at the fitness center, but i just swim for an hour, and I really enjoy that. Silver Sneakers sends me an email letter every week, too, and i think that has links to some of their online programs.

Same with me,included free in my Med Adv. The best gyms in town all except it for free membership. I go 2-3 times a week.
