Anyone in Australia Affected by the Floods

It seems like most of the heavy rain and flooding is on the south eastern side. Are any of you or your families hit by this latest round of floods?

I think @mellowyellow lives in Sydney.

I am not over there but it looks like a very bad situation. For some reason in my mind I did not think think flooding happened in Australia. I guess we all suffer from various weather problems. I hope they are all takeing measures to stay safe. I am sure the farms will be devastated from the water. If that happens it will cause much ecomonic hardship.

Inland Australia is arid but the eastern side of the Great Dividing Range, which is the remains of earlier and higher peaks, catches the clouds coming in from the oceans and the rivers and creeks mostly deliver the rain back to the sea. Although dams have been built, partly for water conservation and partly for flood mitigation, flooding is pretty much par for the course as the rivers spread out across flatter land.

What is not par for the course is having the same towns and farms inundated four times in as little as 6 months. We can blame la Nina but in my mind we are looking at the consequences of global warming.

What a mess. I hope the levels go down soon.
