Anyone Play Chess on this Forum?

A good competitive chess match can be really mentally exhausting. I've only ever really played against my brother over the years. He's better than I am, but when I do beat him it's very satisfying.

I figure even in a loss, you learn. It's the best board game ever.
Mentally challenging. That’s the word. The idea of having to think that much and for that long I already find very intimidating. I prefer a lazy brain!😂

@sch404

Is it a chore to keep posting snapshots of our game?...Or is it easy to do. I like it. Keeps everything fresh and updated.

You moved Bd7 a few moves back. Now it is on the B7 spot. I'm confused.

Yes Black move 18 was meant to show Bb7 not Bd7. Both the game display and the transcript reflect this move was Bb7. Please let me know if you feel you lost on account of this and I will simply resign the game.

Saright!

I was so keyed in on the right side of the game, I didn't notice the typo you made. I should have picked that up right away as you have been screenshotting the moves.

You're taking it to me pretty good, so I'll just resign. I'm too far behind in material and position. It was really fun. I'll have you another rumble down the road and I'll go Black this time. :)

My brother told me a funny chess story years ago.

Apparently this kid was beating this grandmaster pretty handily and the grandmaster declared, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this young man has played me a fine game and I offer him a draw." :LOL:

Chess can be brutal...demoralizing...mentally exhausting...etc. My whole life I've gravitated towards activities that are really difficult. I enjoy golf, chess, songwriting...etc. I suppose if I had put the 10,000 hours into darts or billiards I coulda been a contenda. I dunno...I've just always liked a challenge I suppose.

I have always enjoyed playing chess. I'm pretty competitive by nature. I don't like getting beat, especially at chess. But getting beaten, as you point out, is the key to building one's chess skills and strength. Lately I have preferred playing against 'bots' so that I can measure my strength and progress quantitatively. Since I am age 81, its a real challenge just staying as good as I was even a few years ago, let alone during my youth, but I'm still hanging in there and still learning new stuff, especially about how to analyze a position. The chess puzzles on chess.com are a terrific way to try to maintain my chess skills. Like you, I have never shied away from things that are intellectually challenging and stimulating. My degree(s) and work background are in electrical engineering. I am a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California also a registered patent agent with the USPTO.

The game has always intrigued me. I know how to move the pieces, but when the game starts, I don't have a clue what to do. I played a game of checkers with a 10 year old a few years ago, and he beat me in the most embarrasing and humiliating way. I would move a checker, and he would take 4 of mine, in almost every sequence. I could never anticipate what he was going to do next.

So I'm otta this thread.

@sch404

I'm a little busy until the first week of July, but I'd love to have another rumble with you again around that time period. My turn to be Black. I'll keep posting on the forum in-between, but I need time to concentrate on the Chess moves, so maybe we could start it up again in a couple of weeks.

Cheers!
