I thought they had ditched their dial-up service years ago. I was on AOL for three or four years in the late 90's and had fun with the chat rooms and using AOL Instant Messenger. Once my cable company offered broadband around 2000 I ditched AOL and never looked back but I do have fond memories of my AOL dial-up days.

AOL announces September shutdown for dial-up Internet after 34 years

I started with CompuServe but I did switch over to AOL because I thought if I did I would stop getting the flood of AOL discs in the mail. Signing up with them didn't stop the flood of discs !

Whoa !!! Still kickin' it til Sept ... Whoa !!! End of an era
Started with AOL. I remember wondering if there was even anything on the Internet outside of AOL sites :ROFLMAO:
Then I found another dial up carrier that was cheaper. Been so long, can't remember the name now.
It was cheaper but didn't have all the bells and whistles of AOL.
Had dial up well into the 2000's

AOL was catchy too bad it had to end with lonely! In early 2000's I used Rt#crud&bckAgain.
I suppose it was the rural America that kept it going. U no take away video and music, the
Internet was better back then, very little delay in getting a site. Just not much adds and BS
people putting their two cents worth of crap in ones ears and eyeballs. I liked it better then.
Yahoo still seems better too.

I used web-tv and dial up too with AOL, still look at their
news page every day....got in real $$$ bind cause I didn't
know about how the dial up works and got big charges for
out of area hook ups....tell the truth I'd like web tv again!!!

Yes, I had WebTV (MSNTV) too. It was so slow that it took me an hour or so to read and answer 5-6 emails. Butne thing I remember is being able to embed a song into an email I sent so that the recipient heard music playing while reading my email, but they didn't see anything or have to do anything or click on a link for that to happen. That technology doesn't seem to be available today in Outlook emails.

I wouldnt mind too. I liked the fact that you couldnt get a virus. All you had to do was unplug it and it would start fresh.
And it was cheap. If I remember right mine was less than $200 for the unit and $10 a month.

Mine was never that slow. The only thing that would take forever was if something contained a huge picture.
I didnt know about the music. That would have been fun.

I used to use the dial up for AOL and chatted on some sites and liked the You've Got Mail.

It was on my first computer in the late 1990's that I went on AOL. I liked going on the Internet better when I could do that.

Oh, I remember when AOL was new, and I was in heaven with the great service …. those were the days.

I didn’t realize it still existed though …thought it all disappeared some time ago.

Like a lot of folks I started with AOL dial up back in the 90's and I still use AOL as my primary email address....it's free and I've not had any problems with it.

Dont laugh. I still have all my Webtv email addresses. I use the one in the cats name as my spam holder.
Thats the one I use if I sign up for something. Every once in a while I clear it out without looking.
I use my msn email address for my "good" email.

Talk about customer loyalty, and the people who never change their purchase hobbit.
Imagine if they have also held Apple or Google stocks from the time they subscribed to AOL.
🙄
