April Fool's Day - April 1st

One time I was. My older sister knew that I was collecting words for a contest involving Pepsi. This required me to collect the phrase which I don't remember what it was to this day.

However she one time opened the can looked to me and said "I've got the word!" which was a rare word and to collect the phrase meant you got $10,000. Needless to say I was quite pissed off.

I remember telling her "Just you remember, payback comes one day!"

5 months later my mother and I were living over in Vancouver Washington my sister stayed at the house in Oregon. One day she calls up and says she had found a cat, hurt, dehydrated and sick.

So me and my mother drive over there pick up the cat then drive all the way across Portland to 24-hour emergency vet. After 2 hours and $300 we finally left the veterinarian.

As we got back home my mother indicated to me about how this cat was basically dead tired. I said "fine now it's time for payback!"

My mother agreed to go along with it, so I went to my sister who was sitting there worried about the cat. I went in and told her "Help Mom with the cat, and.....I'm sorry"

You could tell that she was ready to start crying like anything, because she really did like this little tiger striped cat. She went out to the car her face crunching up ready to start crying and my mother handed the cat to her.

All of a sudden the cat raises his head and says "Meow?"

In shock my sister almost dropped the cat! I said "Now we're even!"

She later agreed that I paid her back very nicely.

When I was in high school my late father came into my room one Saturday morning and shook me awake telling me that I had a phone call. Now this was like at 6am. I struggled to get up, get my robe on and hurry out to the kitchen where our wall phone was. Meanwhile my dad had gone back to bed. When I got to the phone, I realized that it was still hanging on the wall. My first instinct was that my dad had hung up on whoever called me that early.

So, I marched into my parents' bedroom and said, "dad did you hang up my phone call?" He rolled over acting as if I had just woken him up, and he said, "what phone call"? For a minute I was confused, then it hit me...it was April 1st! Dad went back to sleep, and I tried too, but could not! Now it is a good memory....I did the same thing to all three of my kids when they were in high school...great fun!

My first April 1st working, I was handed a message by a co-worker. He didn't look me in the eye, but said, "Agnes somebody called for you." The message was only a phone number. When I called, the person answering said, "St. Agnes Cemetery." After a go around with them I realized it was a joke.
Later, another co-worker told me they always do that to a new employee, but one year it backfired when the new worker's mother had just passed away and was buried in that cemetery. Not so funny, then.
