I don't wear aprons, and sometimes wish I had when there's splattered grease stains, etc. on my shirt. But my mother did, and I thought this was a cool page on the history of aprons...http://www.pamalam.co.uk/Aprons.htm
Funny you should ask that question..
I do ALL the cooking in our house.. I NEVER cook without an apron on.. I used to, but after each meal, I would have to change my top, so I started wearing my BBQ apron and I now have several others that I cook with..
Pockets to hold a towel as well..
Please don't laugh !!!
One of the aprons I have to BBQ with is BLACK.... Solid BLACK ...
It also came with a chef's hat also in BLACK !!!!!!!! Not a tall one..
Somehow I seem to get those aprons as gifts.. No idea where they got the idea to buy me that, but I seem to like wearing an apron when either cooking or BBQ-ing in summer.. I don't wear an apron when I BBQ in winter.....
I've never understood the reason for wearing an apron.
It's not as if I have Parkinson's and spill the ingredients all over myself when I cook. I don't have Tourette's so no sudden, uncontrolled movements. I have an above-average level of coordination and muscular control. I don't even spill a drop of coffee when I pour. Maybe it comes in part from being a lab tech for a few years, or from my Taiji practice.
I don't cook my food at such high temperatures that the grease is flying all over the room. I don't lean over the pots and pans when they're bubbling. I know better than to grab a hot surface, thus avoiding the involuntary recoil and spewing of ingredients all over myself.
I've never worn an apron, much less owned one. It's just one of those things, like Magic Eye, that I just don't "get".
Being height challenged (5"2') I can understand the need for an apron. Every time I do dishes or cook I get wet or messy. But although there is an apron in the kitchen I never wear one.
