I think I may have seen another thread on this in which someone mentioned gas stations were passing on credit card fees.
Anyway, I went to the salon that I've been going to for 15 years. I was talking with the owner. They had just implemented a new system and were having great difficulty with it. She explained that the credit card companies were now charging them 4% and the new system was put in place so they could pass it along to customers!
They've never raised the price for my haircut in all the time I've been going there so I'm fine with an additional 4%. She did say if I paid cash there would be no additional charges so that may be the way I pay in the future. I carry one $20 bill in my wallet for emergencies but I always pay with cards for the perks. Some merchants don't even take cash these days so this turnaround is surprising but then again it isn't for a small business owner.
BTW I asked her if possible tariffs were impacting them and she said only for beauty supplies. They are an Aveda store and that is all made in the US so no issues there.
Anyone else seeing this when dealing with your local merchant?
