Are ouija boards evil?

It is said to never play them alone, but long ago I tried it once. The planchette moved around, which is surprising in itself, but after awhile it started spelling out words that sounded like threats. I got sort of scared and put the board away and never touched it after that.

Some people say it's just a game, a piece of wood, and it's silly to think it has any "powers" and that it's a person's subconscious pushing around the planchette. But I certainly didn't make threats against myself and don't know where that came from. So I'm confused as to what to think about ouija boards. Any opinions?

I don't know about evil but spooky I do.

While in the Navy stationed in Lakehurst N J at a party my wife & another Navy wife were asked to try a ouija board for fun.

The host asked how many siblings he had.

The planchette moved to the number 3. The host asked the gender. 2 males 1 female. then it moved to 2 males again.

The host said it scared him because he does have 2 brothers but his sister died a few days after being born. They put the board away.

No personal experience other than a friend of mine when I was young got playing with it for awhile. Messed him up pretty good. He burned the board in the backyard, packed his stuff and move out of his apartment. When I asked him about it he just said "you wouldn't believe me if I told you".

Quija Boards, Tarot cards and other means.of divination, 'fortune telling' are tools without inherent characteristics like a good /evil.
They can be useful, helpful to those who do readings as A focal point and structure or format for conveying information to those seeking readings. Also, people who seek such readings usually like having some physical patterns or images to associate with the.predictions.

But it is important to remember they are tools not toys. Just as one needs how to properly use tools, especially power saws and drills and what safety measures are wise one should approach. divination tools similarly. Learn about the tool. If someone will use them to 'read' for you, learn about the reader.

Most things you wish to learn about yourself, your life (lives) and or future you can access yourself through meditative techniques. It takes a bit more work, makes it harder to ignore things you don't really want to deal with, but in the long run is worth it.

My first experience with the board was at a Christmas Party in the early '70's. Me & a friend wanted to wish Jesus a Happy Birthday. There were drugs & drinking but..........

"something" came on, claiming to be my father's maternal grandma. She was there to warn me, she said, that my father will suffer a sudden terrible illness and might die, but won't.

I cried hysterically. My board mate then said he moved the planchette, although I and others heard him say soon afterwards that he did not move it; he was as startled as me and only said he did to lighten the situation.

I moved back to Zurich shortly after. Only a few months later, it happened. My father suffered a bleeding ulcer. They didn't think they could save him, but he pulled through.

I've had other ouija experiences. All came through as true. I don't know what the energy is that controls the board. I don't know what the energy is that controls Tarot. There is an energy. I just have no idea what it is and don't speculate on it.

No idea if those things are evil or not... but I sure won't touch one after all the things I've heard over the years (including things I've read on this thread.) I had a close friend about 20 years ago who told me about having one when she and her sister were teens. They bought it on their own and nothing scary happened with it, but their Mom made them throw it out and not have it in the house.

They took it outside to the garbage can and thought that was that. They were NOT happy. About half an hour later, their Dad came running in saying that the garbage can was on fire. That was enough convincing for me. 🔥

My view is simple. These things are very dangerous, leave well alone. I do believe they are a channel to conjuring up forces that are evil. I don't ever want to test that theory out, as I have heard enough stories.
No good ever comes of meddling with trying to foretell futures or trying to contact the dead. Why do that anyway? The living have no business with such things.

I'm not afraid of tarot cards because I feel the reader or person laying out the cards has control over them, but ouija boards are an invitation, in a way, to spirits or unseen forces. I had one as a kid and my friends and I used it like toy, like the eight ball if you remember those. Eventually I threw it away and have never used a ouija since. I guess it depends on the feelings/experiences of the person using it? If you feel uncomfortable with a ouija board don't use one. I do believe in a spiritual world that is beyond our comprehension or my ability to describe it well for you.

An interesting article about the talking board's history ... The Dark History Behind Quija Boards - Baltimore Magazine

Ouija boards are tools to venture into the occult. As such, they are a way to venture into a domain controlled by Satan. I have heard testimonies of people that dabbled in the occult. Initially, it is a feeling of power, but progresses to where the power (satan) begins to overtake the user, resulting in frightening paranormal activity and/or suicidal thoughts. Here is one example: Escape from Torment that came by playing with a Ouija Board and testimonies dealing with those leaving the occult are found at Browse All Programs | Unshackled

The boards themselves are just a tool, however. We could seek out the occult with just about any otherwise ordinary object or activity. I choose to avoid all such activity and instead serve Jesus Christ. As Bob Dylan sang, “It may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you gotta Serve Somebody.”

Why do we have to serve somebody?

According to various scriptures, like John 12:31, Satan is the ruler of this world. But God is the ruler of the heavenly kingdom. So we are under rulers and we must choose. It is a spiritual service but is manifested through our lives. According to Ephesians 6:12, it is actually a spiritual battle, as it states: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
