I would agree that this is huge news and it should be possible to hold a non political conversation. I am hopeful that we would be allowed to discuss the investigation and the hearings going on. I guess me being in law enforcement for 37 years has me very interested in the details and opinions without being political.

We should be able to discuss the investigation while keeping control of our emotions and not get politically involved.

Matrix: Would you allow us to try having a conversation and giving our opinions based only on the investigation? I would really like to know how people feel about an assassination attempt on a former president. We just have to train ourselves to keep the name out of the conversation. We learned that all the time when I served on duty.

Thank you.

People are always trying to kill famous people which is sad. I have my doubts about his ear actually being shot and tend to believe it was cut by the glass from the teleprompter.

I wouldn’t be holding anymore outside rallies as they are too dangerous. Much easier to check people for weapons using an inside venue.

That was the very first thing I heard too @Teacher Terry. It was the teleprompter. I hesitated to say so when everyone insisted he was shot.

FbI says he was shot. Other people were shot. Does not matter…too close for comfort.
It was very sad for the people that were killed, injured and their families. The candidate was one very lucky man. Most of his ear would have been blown off if it was shot. If I was the candidate rallies would be inside with everyone walking through a metal detector. Too many crazy people in the world.

I'm not a political minded person.
But..
I'm disturbed by the trend that's been established that if things don't go the way liberals want them to, there will be violence.

I have never stopped thinking about the violent protests that toppled statues, destroyed businesses. Now this assassination attempt.the country is being held hostage.

If Trump was to be elected, what can we expect?

I'm still curious about the encrypted accounts which could be crypto accounts. Two of them were from Germany and Belgium. There's another too. Also reports he sanitized the house with no trash found and squeaky clean.

What or who else might he be covering for?

It was fine to discuss before... right after it happened. But then it was ruined and shut down. I can't understand why current events can't be discussed by {supposedly} mature adults... no, not just adults, senior adults, without sticking vitriol in there. I hope the thread works out for you! I have often wanted to say "don't you have a FILTER?" when I see certain posts. 🤷‍♀️

It's blatantly obvious there was a hole in security. People are asking why.
In reading the explanation by Ronald Rowe, the Acting Director of the Secret Service said: "
said. “I think this was a failure of imagination, a failure to imagine that we actually do live in a very dangerous world where people do actually want to do harm to our protectees. I think it was a failure to challenge our own assumptions."

Rowe said the Secret Service assumed there would be “sufficient eyes” from local law enforcement covering the outer perimeter of the rally, including counter sniper teams in the AGR building from which the shooter fired."

If it's a criminal conspiracy it's not politics. Motivations vary regardless. Probably more close calls than we know about especially since protection probably had lapses and holes like that at prior events. I doubt those circumstances were a one off.

Failure to inspect the perimeter. I had a cat that would inspect the perimeter every morning and every evening, Secret Service people should do that repeatedly for our dignitaries. Instead they were lax concerning their duty and this happened.

Some former secret service people are saying, given the height of nearby structures, the secret service perimeter should have been much wider, and that they can't understand how the water tower was missed. They're saying that was an ideal post for secret service snipers like it was a no-brainer.

IMO it shouldn’t be political.

It seems to me that the Secret Service was complacent enough to allow an unsophisticated young man to gain access.

Imagine what could have happened if a highly sophisticated group had decided to act.

Also, consider how long this lax security may have been going on and the possible number of targets being protected by the Secret Service who are at risk.

I’m not condemning them, I understand how mind numbingly boring it can become to be on the lookout for things that may never happen but that’s the job.

Our nation literally dodged a bullet and hopefully some good can come from it.

He said "Since my appointment as the Acting Director one week ago (after the other one resigned), I identified gaps in our security on July 13 and have implemented corrective actions. I would like to take a moment to outline some of those actions.

One of my first actions as Acting Director was traveling to the Butler Farm Show site, which was no longer a crime scene, to better understand how our protection failed. I inspected the site and the AGR building. I went to the roof of the AGR building where the assailant fired shots and laid in a prone position to evaluate his line of sight. What I saw made me ashamed. As a career law enforcement officer, and a twenty-five-year veteran with the Secret Service, I cannot defend why that roof was not better secured. To prevent similar lapses from occurring in the future, I directed our personnel to ensure every event site security plan is thoroughly vetted by multiple experienced supervisors before it is implemented."

I've been watching the grilling on YouTube. The entire bi-partisan committee has been pretty brutal....understandably.

Yeah, "imagine" "what if?"

Lots of mysteries.
Most Americans didn’t pay attention to a certain small detail about Donald Trump’s brush with death in Butler, Pa., but it involves our state, so we will.

Soon after Trump’s July 13 rally ended in a burst of gunfire, a mysterious white van with an Arizona license plate was spotted in a neighborhood adjacent to the fairgrounds.

Billy Thoma, one of the neighbors, told Fox News he got home a little before 5 p.m., saw a van with the Arizona plate parked on the street “and didn’t think much of it.”

Pretty soon his street was lined with police officers — roughly five to 10 patrol cars, with cops and perhaps other law enforcement types surrounding the vehicle.

When one of the cops opened the van door, “everyone jumped back,” Thoma said.

He didn’t know why, but he certainly was fearful there could be a bomb aboard. It put him a little on edge, he said.
We still don’t know what’s behind the mysterious white van with Arizona plates in Butler, Pa., or why it attracted so much law-enforcement interest.

There are all kinds of anomalous things about this incident

It sounds like the SS and the local law officers didn't have much communication. An "open air" rally, like this one requires that virtually everything within a quarter mile needs to be "protected". Trump is just lucky that he turned his head, or his brains would have been scattered all over the podium.
