In the South we hug everyone we know and some we don't, if they look worthy of hugging. But I remember the 80's as well, Phil, and for a few yrs, outside of marriage, sensible people refrained from most any form of touching. Didn't take long to figure out we were being too paranoid and over reacting...certainly as far as hugs are concerned. At this point regarding casual meetings, I would avoid someone with a bad flu bug far more than someone with AIDS.
Somewhat off topic, and I don't need to call any names. We all know who I'm speaking of.....enormously famous basketball Icon who was diagnosed HIV positive seems like 20 yrs ago. I am amazed that his wife has remained married to him all these years, cuz there's not enough protection in the world for me to remain in the marital relationship. And I'm also amazed that he's not only alive, he looks healthy as can be and leads a very active life working with his charities. That's what money can do for you, but there have been many other famous & rich ones who weren't that lucky!
