Are you a kisser? Are you a hugger?

I hug my friends. I have had friends THANK ME because for so long no one was hugging each other. Life is too damn short not to let those you love know how you feel whether that be words, actions or gifts as the feeling pulls you.

I hug my son (and get in a quick kiss on the cheek or head when I can - he's 23). Of course TheOtherHalf and I are still very "affectionate." I hug my other family when I see them but not kissers. And usually just a quick hug as most of them are not huggers.
 
When we attended a cousin's wedding in Youngstown, OH, a friend of their family was there. He was from France. At the time, I wasn't aware that kissing was common among men where he was from. When we were introduced, I held out my hand & he went to kiss me. I put my hands on his chest & shoved him away. He looked hurt. Later, when it was explained to me, I apologized.
We didn't kiss & make up; we just made up.

Came here Holly. I think you need a big hug! Maybe you just weren't hugged "right."

I have to say we were not huggers growing up. (And I hope you didn't have a "bad" experience) But in a loving relationship for over 30 years I am definitely more of a hugger these days. And I can't imagine not showering our son with hugs while he was growing up. Now I'm lucky when he comes home on leave and I get that fantastic hug at the airport!

No..no..hugging!! you're right I never got hugged when I was growing up, and I don't like it now (thats true) ... but my last post was an actual joke if you read it again..:LOL:
 
There are degrees of hugging and kissing and they all have their place. That said, I never let my kids or grandkids get out my door without a good hug and an "I love you; drive safe." My close friends and I give and get a quick hug when we haven't seen each other for a while. When I played baseball, hugging team mates for a job well done or a "you'll get 'em next time" was natural, and after a big win the whole team and all the coaches went in for a hug-fest.

More passionate hugs and kisses are reserved for my lady.

Maybe some just don't like hugs. I've had all kinds of hugs and only liked them when I'd had a few drinks--so actually I don't like them much either. Everyone has a right to do or not do what they wish.

If you mean passion kisses, my wife and I have never lost the habit. In our social circle most of the ladies will offer a cheek, a social kiss on one or both cheeks forms an enjoyable bond. I shake hands with all the men, but if one is suffering, or perhaps bereaved, I follow his body language and hug him if he shows the need for that. Same with the ladies, I always go by their body language, if a lady doesn't lean towards me, I don't socially kiss her. Sometimes though, people need some sort of contact and if they are the type not to be hugged, I will hold out a hand, usually it's accepted, all I do then is gently squeeze whilst keeping constant eye contact. If they smile I return the smile. Trust is something that is earned, with it, comes lasting, enjoyable friendship.

Neither and my roots are in England. Can't really shake hands either because of arthritis. I used to like more hugging but my implants fall off my ears so I avoid it. I can sit on the sofa and put my arm around you but not right now as I have a shoulder injury. Sigh...I will attempt hugs with my daughter and grandkids when I am allowed to do so.
 
years ago when I was 'young' kissin an huggin was the thing. never had grands or aunties comin at me with big red lips nor pinchin the cheek cheeks. now at my age and with the pandemic kissin is out and I cant find no opposite to hug... they think you are some kind of prevert----
