Are You a News Junkie?

I guess I am. I read and watch em all, CNN, BBC, AL Jazera, Fox, ABC,CBS, Bloomburg,

How about you? Do you have a favorite? I don't.

Trying to lessen it a bit, but, yes. Seems the less informed are more content, I want to be more like them so thinking maybe I too should start tuning out more. Just a thought. BRB, the afternoon news is just about to come on

I read a lot of different on-line news sites - including BBC, Guardian, New York Times, Toronto Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun, Mother Jones, even CNN - but not all of it, otherwise I'd be at 24/7. Not a true junkie - but maybe 'gateway' junkie. :D

That's the Catch-22, isn't it?

I long ago gave up on news and thought I was happier, but then realized that it was happiness brought about from ignorance.

Yet when I tried to re-enter the news world I found little aside from duplicity, agendas and outright lies. Much "news" has disappeared in favor of "infotainment" as well.

I try to catch the alternative news networks whenever I'm hungering for what's happening.

I tend to feel the same way. Now I mostly want to watch someone cook or make me laugh. I get a little overwhelmed at times with the news

Unfortunately this is so very true. I have to sort through a lot of mess to just get a taste of real news these days, it can be exhausting at times. Often 3 minutes of real news for every 20 minutes of fluff. A little fluff is ok, but I'm not looking for entertainment when I turn to the news stations. These days you can barely get a really good book recommendation from the NY Times as you once did. But they still over some good reporting here and there. I channel surf a lot between new stations.

Heh ... when I lived in NYC my Sundays were very simple:

1. Put on the coffee
2. Run to the deli and pick up a dozen bagels
3. On the way back pick up the Times

Now I wouldn't use the Times to line my birdcage. :(

(Their crossword puzzle is still good, but not as good as the London Times)

I try to be selective - depending on mood - sometimes just want the entertainment, food and design sections, sometimes everything is DRTL - (Didn't read, too long). Some days no news is good news. :)

Yes, I think I am a news junky, I like to keep up with what is going on, mostly get the news online, excluding any sports news, not into any sports.

I would have to say that now that I can see how one sided the media usually is and how they simpley don't talk about "certain" things, those things being what their Corporate owners don't WANT them to report.... I get most of my news online also..

It's true, ignorance is bliss. During my working years I hardly watched the news at all, maybe caught the local evening news on the TV. Since I've been retired, I've paid more attention to the news than I ever have, but I'm far from a news junkie.

Hubby usually goes back and forth from Fox to MSNBC, and I overhear some of the things they are "reporting" on. I agree, it's not much more than 'infotainment' these days, and the way some of them, especially on Fox, word their "reports" is actually insulting. They seem to be more intent of forming your opinions for you, than giving the facts. If it's a topic of interest to me, I will also seek alternative news sources for more of an idea of what's really happening.

I don't watch any of it on TV -- can't stand the "infotainment" stuff and the 7 zillion commercials.

I catch the internet news on CBS, CNN, Huffington Post, etc. I can choose what I want to read about. I wouldn't call myself a news junkie, but I do like to see what's going on.

I usually watch local news, ABC and FOX at times, but not every day. I like to watch some of the commentary shows mostly on one of the FOX channels. I like "the five" and am a fan of Charles Krauthammer. I am also a fan of John Stossel since I have strong Libertarian leanings, especially concerning the size and scope of government.
